Even if you bought in at $14, which I doubt it. That's a return of $3,650 / $14,000 = 26% not including darkcoin's future price appreciation.

Wow, thats a crazy good ROI, which is also leveraged by DRK/ BTC price appreciation. Huge potential. Yikes.

1) Are there a limit to the number of masternodes?

2) what is the status of the fork at this instant (4:30 AM EST)? Give me the low-tech overview. Has it not gone as smoothly as planned? Was it even supposed to go as/more smoothly than it has? How much is remains to be done; actual and potential problems etc? What does tomorrow/ later this afternoon look like?

No hard limit on MNs but my calcs indicate it will level out at 2,000 MNs:

Ok, if the maths is right then, ANNUAL return per MN based on number of MNs:

371 = 28.3%
500 = 21%
750 = 14%
1000 = 10.5%
1500 = 7%
2000 = 5%

Majority of people are on the right fork, AFAICT. I think deployment has gone very well, as in if I was the dev I would be happy. There is some discussion whether the MNs are being paid properly and something to do with the voting system per block.

I can't see any major issues. People just need to update their wallets to 9.4.8 and 10.8.8 respectively (without darksend and with darksend). I don't know status of mac wallet.

Suggest, people get their MNs up before price skyrockets further.

Mother of god I didn't every consider how the masternode network could put a serious squeeze on the supply. I bought in a 125K sats because the coin supply was so low, and was going to stay low. DRK is one of the only coins with a reasonable, non-hyperinflation coin supply. I never thought of 1000DRK as that many until the price went up, which incentiveizes more people to build MN, which dramatically reduces a very limited supply. Genius.

Most alts before PoS have absurdly rapid issuance. For example, DOGE people dont realize the primary cause of DOGE's fall: Supply is WAY outstripping demand. The market cap has been stable in the 30-35M range, however the supply has gown 20-40 in just months%.
