Nope, 16khash for 280x, 20khash for 290 here.

8+ khash is much to low for r9 290 . My friend has also some 290's and get's arround 20khas each

You should play with --lookup-gap and try 5 and lower thread-concurrency, if that don't work than stick with 6 and increase --thread-concurrency until miner gives an error. I also use -g 1, but I think g 2 is ok for R9 290 either way you can check g1 Smiley And of course go higher with I till HW errors occur. This is trial and error method.
