I also still have faith about ANC and the last post of Meeh confirms me in what I thought. The lack of news is a strategy of the devs. Let them work. ANC is still very young and in very limited quantities.
Meeh is also working on adding two or three services that will accept ANC as payment. I think that's a really good thing for the future of ANC.

I understand your impatience about zerocoin implemention (i'm too ) but I don't think that DRK have an advantage on ANC.
DRK have been pre-mined (4500 first blocks with reward 500 DRK mined in less than 32 first hours). They are alleging that was because of problems with the difficulty readjustment but I really don't believe it.
DRK isn't open source. They are promising that they will open source in some months but... wait to see!
DRK last fork was a failure. Darksend and masternodes are not working at this time. Even when it will work, the anonimity and privacy of Darksend is controversal because of the masternodes (third-party) that every one can host and see all the transactions between sender and receiver. The masternode can also be hacked. You can already find a case of a masternode hacked resulting of a loose of 999DRK for the owner (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg6984042#msg6984042).
The quickly rise of DRK is only due by speculators that are only interested with benefits in fiat currency (or maybe BTC). No one is spending DRK to buy a service or a product. DRK is just another pump and dump coin. Large holders will take the benefits and leave when small sheeps loose her money.
