After close to a week of tweaking, I've found some pretty decent settings for my Sapphire 290 tri-x's. The first versions of these miners could not run my cards at their normal oc of 1080/1500, but the latest version seems to work (combined with a little voltage bump). I've had my best luck using --Rawintensity, as it's allowed me to bridge the gap between Intensity 20-21 while staying short of the point where the cards go sick. The other card in the rig is a Gigabyte 7850 that I still haven't really tweaked the intensity completely for, but it's running at 1110/1300 1233mv I believe.
Check this guide for configuring your miners, and working on your OC/DC:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=466867.0Some Useful Tips for X11- TC doesn't seem to to matter, so save your self some time and leave it alone . . . for now
- Make sure to try all worksizes, my 7850 performs best with worksize 64
- When working with raw intensity calculate your values based off of (Shaders*n=Rawintensity) Where n= a whole number, once a good value is found you can tweak it from there.
- My 290's give a higher top speed with more threads (right up to 4.2mh/s with 6 threads) but speed variance and reject rates increase as well. Using a single thread has given me my most stable speeds.
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
export GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR=1
##export GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE=50
del *.bin
timeout /t 4
sgminer.exe -k x11mod --rawintensity 1306624,1306624,1306624,33280 -g 1,1,1,2 --shaders 2048,2048,2048,1280 -w 256,256,256,64 --thread-concurrency 24577,24577,24577,10241 --no-submit-stale -c sgminer.conf

I hope this helps some of you 290 owners, they can be a bit . . . odd.
Thanks to Lasybear and Remember remember the 5th of November, I've been following this since the Girino release and now that I've found some stable settings I'm happy to send you guys a donation. It's not a lot but it's the least I could do. I'm looking forward to seeing what this new version of sgminer can bring to the table with all these additions being brought in to one source.
Remember folks, if the miners works for you please donate to these guys to say thank you for their work.
[Edit: added second guide]
[Edit: shaders should be 2560 for the 290, Doh!]
Using BAMT 1.6 with these setting on 4 Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 (non x) but can't get over 2.5MH/s per card. I downloaded and installed the SGminer fork from Benmagro's github:
