1st Confirmation takes 6-8 minutes, pretty much the same as LTC. And yes stop using crappy exchanges and use Mintpal.
I was planning to arb with cryptsy and mintpal a while ago and tested if it would be faster if I use darkcoin to transfer coins between exchanges
