It's natural selection, stupid people don't get vaccinated, stupid people die off more often, everybody wins.

It doesn't work this way.
Forget about voting, nobody except the medical staff can have any right to vote here. Vaccination should be forced for everybody who don't have any specific contraindications, because collective immunity allows us to protect unvaccinated people from getting infection.
It's not a place for the "democracy", because it's about survival. Only massive and forced vaccination was able to exterminate such deseases as polio and variola. The same is correct for measles, rubella and many other infections.
Stupid people must be vaccinated, otherwise some smart people can die too. The only who benefits in this situation is the virus, due to possibility of natural selection for vaccination-resistant strains. If viral genome is unstable then partial vaccination of society is potentially able to create vaccination-resistant strain.
This is correct - we are just putting it off for the short term with only those who wish being vaccinated, while future generations will be likely punished for our collective stupidity.
Of course the problem is that we might not be able to practically, as people will always resist it seems. And ideally, it is wrong to put secret drugs and substances in people without their consent. If they were open source I would feel better about mandatory vaccinations.
It seems as if the only path that we will go down is one of forming stronger viruses and diseases... Is there a realistic solution other than improving our capabilities as we go along (in the societal view)?
