Does anybody know which features can be tested in the alpha? Is it only send / receive (funds and messages)?
what about the Asset exchange? Also I am sure I saw on the first fundraising thread that there could be an auction based exchange? Is that still the case? I would really love to use that instead of ebay.

AFAIK The excact details on the auction aren't published yet.
Regarding the Alpha Version.
You'll be able to test POI (Proof of Importance), Encrypted message sending through transactions, Incomming and outgoing transactions, multiple adresses on a single account, Running your local node and see how the interactive client works
