Block chain has been temporarily fixed and blocks are now being produced again.
The blockchain was never broken, the 4K difficulty block was finally solved, and the coin is currently back functioning as we would all like it.If you don't believe me, try to find the 4k diff block on the block explorer... hint: it should be somewhere around 296707 where there was a 4 day gap.

I looked around and didn't see anything odd with the time blocks were being produced, i didn't see a 4day gap but I also didn't see the record of any 4k diff block (but saw it on the network) so odd not to see it on the blockchain. I noticed that shortly after the block you noted, starting at 296712 (http://kittehcoinblockexplorer.com/block/2686376d8909e66fe6e9c9524fa8a9572122db9659f9bb55f10a5120d7be557a) the coin days destroyed rocket from 83 to 5billion+, the subsequent blocks slowly bring this down by 276715.
Devs are working on a fix, the real fix is having consistent hashing power on the network. As long as its low it'll be raped by MPs even with KGW but after the devs fix the vars for quicker retargeting the problem will be remedied. Just gotta be patient I've been in communication with them and they are working hard on this stuff it isn't trivial; hard forking isn't trivial either.
