As much as I'd like a cpu only coin in the long run, it will happen, and I'd rather it be produced by the community, rather than being picked up by sgminer or similar.
It will hopefully remain CPU only for sometime after launch.

We will release the exact implementation of the algorithm and the cpu miner source on launch so people have a chance to use their standard in-wallet miners for a while before dedicated miners are released.

That may be so, but the added round of SHA makes it a lot harder for ASICS etc to mine, much in the way scrypt was.
