I'm still fairly new to this game... what is the best way to monetise Maxcoin? (or any crypro currency?)

i can see many trading sites that show lots of numbers changing from one coin to another, but if i wanted to sell some Maxcoin, what is a good way to get some actual cash back?

I'm sitting on a measly sum, but if i decided to move on, i'm not sure what the choices are.
