maybe but what is worse is it has a centralized component to it and its main gimmick is using BTC.. redundant just use BTC lol
It's funny how people throw around the words "Centralized" and "Decentralized" without even understanding what they really mean.
/facepalm. Can we please get another community manager.. this guy's snarky attitude..
Also, please explain how veribit is not a centralized service? Thanks.
Both Veribiit, VeriSMS VeriSend and the proposed Veribank are all centralized services. There is no debate to be had about this.
If you want to get into the meat of it, many of these services already exist for Bitcoin as well so saying its redundant and to just use Bitcoin is a fair point. SMSWallet already exists within Coinbase. Veribit is only useful if you think Veriicoin will continually raise in value faster than BTC otherwise you should just use Bitcoin. Verisend competes with the many mixers that already exist, some of which are actually trustless and open source.
Verisend simply cannot be trusted as it is closed source and relies on a centralized mixer on a windows server, Vericoin foundation will likely see major legal issues involving money laundering in the future if they maintain this service and Vericoin does reach ever mainstream use. If services like Lavabit/Twitter/Google/etc can have their records seized by the US government without being allowed report it, it certainly can happen to Verisend.
You devs and even the community really just need to decide if you are going to continue to throw together gimmicky wallet features that do nothing to enhance the protocol to simply have announce dates to pump from or if you actually want to contribute useful open source changes to the crypto currency community. Because you can provide those wallet features for any coin and accomplish more.
