Basically, BurtW's small amount of BTC will follow the stolen coins through the blockchain. It'll mess up the hackers nice even numbers. If the hacker isn't too bitcoin savvy, he might be worried about what this is. If he wasn't already aware, he is now aware he is being tracked.
When I asked someone to add a tag like this yesterday, I was hoping they would add a blockchain public note to say the coins were stolen, so innocent buyers would be scared off from buying. A payment like this has to be made through the blockchain website to include a public note and the buyer would have to view the coins through the blockchain website to see this, but it could act as a deterrent. It was not essential to add a public note, but it might have been another turn of the screw on a hopefully stressed out hacker
At the very least it's causing the hacker additional hassle, which is a bonus
The fact he/she tried to ditch the tag in a address associated with silk road 2 revealed the hacker is bitcoin savvy. Probably reading this thread. Hi hacker! So BurtW's $2 has achieved a few things so far.P.S. If anybody does want to send a small tip for our hacker with a public note saying these are klee's stolen coins, maybe link to this thread, the stolen funds are now in these three addresses:
