Well if it is a tiny island that is fine (which it would be) but i large populations government true democracy is a terrible format, and that is because the majority of people are dumb as hell. This has always been known and if it is a forced democracy (where voting is mandatory) it gets even worse where things litteraly end up just being the same as a number out of a hat because they don't know who they are voting for or what they are.
