I will just have to buy something to protect shelf from sun the few hours that sun hits that area 
Here is my open air setup of S2s running on an empty apartment that I own.
(Local laws WILL make me loose the apartment if I rent it, that´s why I mine there).
It has been running without issue for a few months. It has rained over there a few times without issues so far.
The only thing that really becomes an issue is the dust. I do need to go over there every 3 weeks to clean them with an air compressor.
The image has low quality because I took it from the security camera. I could take better pictures the next time i go there if you´r interested.
The rack it´s located at about 2.5 meters from the balcony.
