Originally the logo wasn't going to be picked until the blockchain was released. But now the devs decided to pick a logo via vote. The logo picking has really just been going on for a couple of weeks, but yes arguing over which one is better has gone on for many months (if not more than 4!). I think that's another reason for picking the logo; if we have a set logo, other issues can be discussed more clearly.
