Forget Ripple. Jed already dumped his pre-mine, and now he has forked Ripple into Stellar. Go on and get your Stellars then. 
IIRC, Jed is in fact the actual founder of mtgox and later sold it to Mark Karpeles.
Interestingly, mtgox is now dead and ripple is slowly dying.
I believe Jed retained a share of ownership in Gox, actually. Supposedly did not have a hand in management. But he has a shady history alright. And Ripple was just carried out horribly. I guess he wants to give it another go with Stellar. Can't lie, the UI is fantastic.
