re the BTCD wallet for windows, my OS (Windows 7) doesn't recognise the rar. file extension. Any recommendations re best/safest program to d/load in order to open the file. Thanks

7-Zip is the best you will find.
Thanks - I've now downloaded 7-zip but when I click on BitcoinDark-win32.qt.rar I get this 7-Zip error message:
