I have an ethereum-wallet-***********54a02fd9d****.json file on my desktop, but i cannot find my email record of the ethereum i purchased. Can anything be done with this file or file name to check on my investment? if so please advise how?

The Ether will not exist until the developers mine the Genesis block, which they anticipate happening in the winter of 2014-2015. After mining the Genesis block, they will send the IPOd Ether to everyone who participated in the presale.
