As far as I can gather - they were the escort of the humanitarian aid convoy. You can hardly call that an invasion force.

Or did anyone expect that the convoy would have been sent in without cover, when West-Ukrainians make a sport of hunting on civilian buses and cars? Convoy protection is a standard practice in all hot spots.
Yeah, yeah, whatever. More like sending the Ukrainian army on a wild goose chase, forcing
them to protect the convoy from rebels who would gladly shoot at it just to give the Russians an excuse to invade.
Putin: "Oh, look. Our humanitarian convoy was attacked by somebody. Time to send more assistance!"
