I have no idea, I will have dinner with him tomorrow and ask. He is a talented painter, young guy of 25 needing help to pay for his uni fees so I suggested he do these paintings when I introduced him to BTC.
He specialises in reproducing photos onto canvas, he is great guy, will let you know his response.

I had dinner with Hai the painter yesterday, he said the reason he used oil paintings is because this is what he specialised in, his father and grandmother were famous oil painters in Vietnam and they trained him to start painting with oils from 4 years old.
Also the painting is actually 60cm x 80cm.
He also is willing to just sell this first painting for 0.4BTC. The person who buys the first painting will also receive a free oil painting of any photo of their choice.So not only do you get his painting, you can have your favourite photo (family, wedding, pet, whatever...) painted on oil to canvas for the same price. That is a bargain he is a talented painter.
