I think its best to announce a irc chat some days before it happens, so people no it in advance and can set some time aside for it.

Good point. It is hard to get everyone on the same page so was hoping to just be in chat all 24 hours and when people show up then they show up. But, clearly that didn't work! 

I just hang out in IRC all day every day....  I have no friends   Cry
