The US government is controlled by corporate interests. I feel sorry for you, buddy. Here in the UK we are now starting to experience the same thing. All our railways were privatized in the 80s and now our most treasured asset, the NHS, is being privatized. And as for ideas as to what we can do, I say we try to awaken as many people as possible (although it will be difficult) and look for alternatives to the current system.

It's downright terrifying.  I had no idea the NHS was starting to become privatized over there, what aspects of the services have gone downhill so far?

I feel bitcoin is a good start to fighting this, but my main idea involves taking money out of politics.  Some sort of election where the people elected live on barely livable wages in shit houses with no perks to the job.  That way the only people who would go in for it would be people who truly want to make the world better.  I can't imagine how to ever make this come about, but a man can dream :/
