Having the Vertcoin devs to manage this may not be a good idea.  Bushido stated clearly he is tied up now.  He needs our assistance.

I like to suggest forming a committee to manage this.
..

..
we should find out, what is the current new PoW development phase
1a. we should get access to already done work under Lyra2 ("It will come for sure, we already have implemented code just waiting for integrating and testing." Bushido)
2. we should strongly avoid at the beginning any hard topics, where there are many different, competitive opinions (e.g. inflation)
3. we rather should start from one and already promised step: Lyra2RE
(small steps strategy, even if hardfork with new PoW seems to be actually not small at all)

Current situation is maybe similar to Whitecoin few months ago - and we should learn how to handle it better.
(next to short enthusiasm phase - there was a long, very sad period)

The committee concept is part of the 'Option 3' I mentioned earlier. It is a role formed to support and complement the current Devs' effort.  The committee should consist of well-trusted and respected community members, the founding Vertcoin dev (Bushido), and a few other active and contributing devs.

The work by the committee includes accessing the current situation (eg ASIC, competition) and current asset (eg the partly implemented Lyra codes by Bushido and devs), before drawing up the plan.  The committee should focus on what would make Vertcoin _successful_ and not be distracted nor bogged down by any controversial 'hard topics' that really do little to no benefit to the coin.  Topics can be in the form of what other benefits/features Vertcoin needs to have and which it can bring to the world.

In summary, the idea behind forming a committee is to help Vertcoin succeed with a wholistic approach.
