Instead what you're going to end up with is someone with the ability to manipulate both markets because where do you think all that Karma is going to end up?

Personally if I were you, I would demand to see that Karma get sent to an unspendable BURN address.

I got a chance to talk to Andreas Antonopoulos this past weekend at Coins in the Kingdom about burning coins -- he considers it a "gift" to the remaining coin holders as it means fewer total coins in circulation, making the over all base (in theory) worth more.
