One possibility: If someone on MintGox couldn't withdraw DRK but could withdraw BTC, they'd have to sell DRK to BTC to get the hell out, then buy back the DRK somewhere else. Any delay between that selling and the buying back is going to temporarily hurt the price, and drag other exchanges down too, until the buyback is finally made.
