Probably. I don't think I've ever heard of an actual success story where a gambling addict turns his life around by playing poker. I'd guess there's a selection bias among people who choose to play poker where they're probably much less likely to be addicts. Poker takes a long time to play through in most instances, especially if there's an initial buy-in and last man standing takes all (well, unless you do something really dumb, I guess) -- with a large table, you can still have high stakes and a relatively low buy-in. $20 can last you a couple hours and still feel engaging, no problem.
ETA: OTOH, poker tends to punish greed, so... maybe.
Yeah i've not heard of any stories either tbh. However...poker connects with you in a far more positive way vs games that cant be beat, i think gamblers would find it a lot harder to make bad betting decisions after a few years of poker therapy.
