In fact, remove any amount of characters from the end up until the first exclamation mark and it will prompt for a password.
I am not good at this game (came late and unlocked 0) but I think I tried this a while ago and discovered the same thing. So I dismissed it because anything with an exclamation mark brings up a prompt.
