Yeah, lets don't mix effort with contribution, for example i could spent 50 hours on a poster, which will be then ugly and too complicated, and i would lose all the competitions
I enjoy all Noble artworks, but competition and voting is probably the best — one can always convince "judges" that he/she deserve a prize (a least 2nd or 3rd place ), and on the other hand, some will do this just for fun and satisfaction...
