Torvalds named it GIT.


"Torvalds has quipped about the name git, which is British English slang roughly equivalent to "unpleasant person". Torvalds said: "I'm an egotistical bastard, and I name all my projects after myself. First 'Linux', now 'git'."[11][12] The man page describes git as "the stupid content tracker".[13]"

in fact, the term 'git' was an ancient derogatory term that Anglo-Saxons called Jewish people in Britain. It was first used as a racist comment towards Jews in Britain hundreds of years ago. It has evolved to being as above 'unpleasant person' and is widely used in the UK as a jokingly-type insult.

so, it's in fact, a racist term.
