Actually I had copy/pasted something into the chat box input field, and was trying to select a part of it by dragging with the mouse. I dragged outside the input field, and that's when it went tiny. It's possible I let go of the mouse button and reclicked while dragging, because I was using a touchpad. I certainly wasn't tabbing, since I was only touching the touchpad.
