I've thought about it, jetmine, and I simply cannot see any way that a pool can convince a majority of nodes to accept the block it has produced over someone else's. That would require network coercion on a massive scale.

If you look at blockchain.info it is connected to what? around 250 nodes - would it be that hard to run 250 optimised on their actual block databases and setup appropriately, and point them at a big pool?
