The main question remains - whether "decentralization" is really something that people value.

People might not know that decentralization is what they need, but ever since the Snowden files, people started to realise that it might not be a good idea to hand over all your data to a single company and hope for the best. Most of the people I know now say  that there is no way they are going to upload anything sensitive/personal to Dropbox without encrypting it first. As far as I know, Dropbox/Google/Amazon/Apple clouds, they all have great uptime, but when it comes to security - just see the recent hacks. Dropbox also checks the md5-s of all files users upload against a database of known "copyright infringement" cases, and if your file is on the list, they might just delete it. And if you're the lucky one with an md5 collision Smiley , you can argue against the deletion, I guess.
