Board Mining software (miners)

If you are trying to mine from home, just don't. It is not worth it. Buy a USB miner like a Gekkoscience NewPac if you want to do it for fun, but unless you have very cheap power (must be less than $0.04/kWh) and lots of investment capital you'll just be wasting lots of time and money.

I mined on Bitminter several years ago when I was just getting started with bitcoin mining. I never thought I'd see the day where it would be shut down. But unfortunately, this is the fate of the Bitcoin network. It seems that especially non-chinese pools are dropping left and right these days with the network power now being centralized among a small few players. Sad to see such a historic and important pool to be among those that are shutting down.

I'm not quite sure why you are cross compiling it for windows. It runs better on a linux based OS.

EDIT: Is this any help??

https://arrayfire.com/cross-compile-to-windows-from-linux/

On the readme the developer states that cgminer is guaranteed to be more stable on a linux based OS, not that it will run better. Performance should be similar across both platforms.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the article you linked isn't useful to me because I am using MXE (which is what the developer recommends as a cross compilation tool) to compile cgminer

You need to read the CGminer readme files and check the CGMiner thread.

I know very little about compiling the source.  But there is no "--enable-blockerupter" option as it uses the icarus driver, there is no need to disable gpu support as that was removed in 4.8, I beleive, and I have never seen an "disable" switch so I don't think there is any need for that.

The --enable-blockerupter option is listed in the readme on the cgminer GitHub. That is not what the problem is.

Is there any way I could get some help compiling cgminer? I cloned the repository listed in the OP and followed the instructions given by user vh on the first page. However, make fails with the following error:
Code:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lws2_32
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lwinmm
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
Anybody know how I fix this?
EDIT: It's worth mentioning as well that I am trying to cross compile this to run on Windows
EDIT 2: Also worth mentioning I am using different options for configure.
Code:
./configure --host=i686-w64-mingw32.static --disable-gpu --enable-bflsc --enable-gekko --enable-blockreupter --disable-shared
Update: after recompiling MXE I am now getting a different error
Code:
CC cgminer-driver-blockerupter.o
CC cgminer-driver-gekko.o
CCLD cgminer.exe
cgminer-crc16.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

Upcoming halving and mining
by
0bit
on 17/04/2020, 03:08:43 UTC
What are your thoughts on the upcoming halving and how it will affect mining? Seems to me that the general sense around here and the broader Bitcoin community is that profits are already that a lot of people are going to be switching off their miners after the halving occurs. Do you think that the halving is going to have a major affect on network power? Do you think that the price of Bitcoin will rise enough to keep mining profitable?

Change the pool, just why don't people ditch the fuckin' toxic Antpool already?  Huh
Fairly reasonable reply to be honest. I have some earnings still yet to be payed out so I intend on mining there only until I reach the minimum payment.

AntPool connection keeps dropping
by
0bit
on 15/04/2020, 01:25:28 UTC
The boredom of quarantine has motivated me to pull some of my old miners out of storage, fire up cgminer and start mining again. I checked on them after a few hours and I noticed that the AntMiner dashboard listed my worker as offline for the whole time. Upon investigation I noticed that what kept happening was that a few minutes after the pool difficulty level would settle the message "Startum connection to pool 0 interrupted" would appear and with that the difficulty would go back up. As a result, I'm not actually getting any accepted shares because this keeps happening in a loop. Is anyone else that is using AntPool having a similar problem or is this a local issue?  Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I am using cgminer 4.9.0.

Re: Bitcoin Futures- The Bank Attack on the Crypto-Market

I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. The biggest reason why I see this being a good thing is because large and reputable organizations like CME and NASDAQ looking to offer Bitcoin futures contracts lends Bitcoin lots of legitimacy, which is something it needs in order to ultimately be adapted by regular folks. Most people stay away from Bitcoin because they blindly listened to the news media when they painted Bitcoin as a scam used by the criminal underworld to finance "terrorism" or whatever the threat they chose that week was (The best way to grab people's attention is to make them afraid). The offering of these futures contracts could change that perception. Let's be honest: a huge part of Bitcoin's existence is speculative trading. CME and NASDAQ probably see this as an opportunity for them to make money, and probably aren't doing this out of some contrived plan to control and destroy Bitcoin. They'd be wiser to profit off of it's existence rather than "attack" it.

I can login fine, no problems seen here...  Huh

Edit- sure you're using the correct Username, not Workername, right?

I am using the correct username. I filled in the password reset form to see if maybe I had the wrong password but have not received a message yet.

Edit: It might just be my email, as I've also tried logging in to my Blockchain wallet and the verification email hasn't come for about 20 minutes now
This came up a while back and as I recall some free mail servers like hotmail and maybe gmail had erroneously put the domain our mail comes from on a spam mail blacklist and would not accept messages from the pool. If you are a using a free mail account I would suggest another email addy.

I think that's what I might have to do, as the email still has not come. My email address is through my ISP however it shouldn't take this long.
Edit: The reason I was unable to log in had something to do with uBlock Origin being enabled. Once I disabled it, everything seems to be working fine.

Hello there. I just signed up for the pool and have got my workers running, but whenever I try to login on the website it always says "Login Failed", even though I am certain that I am using the right password. Anybody else having this issue or know how to fix it?

F-Prot, Bitdefender, Dr. Web, Emsisoft and Malwarebytes have all worked well for me in the past. I am using Norton right now but I kind of regret it since it detects cgminer (and most other Bitcoin mining programs) as a virus.

Pretty much the only place you can solo-mine with only 10 GH/s of power and still find a block  Grin. Anybody else mining Testcoins?

Unless you have extremely cheap electricity/free electricity that you can somehow obtain(hopefully legally), and you're not into mining because it's fun, but rather only for the profits, then no, it's not feasible anymore with so many pools operating and difficulty shooting up.

Yeah it seems like you're right. I mine for fun right now with some older hardware that I have (mostly USB stuff, never gonna make any money obviously). It seems that with the amount of power miners use and noise these things make, mining at home will not be feasible right now if I want to make a profit of any kind. Too bad.

Can you mine at home anymore?
by

on 02/06/2017, 23:10:31 UTC
The age old question. The Antminer R4 is a step in the right direction with the quieter fans but it costs an arm and a leg. Are there any other miners that could be used to mine at home and give you an ROI that cost less than an R4?

The speed problem is gonna persist for a while. The reason is because it's incredibly difficult to get people to buy a miner, especially given how much they cost and how hard they are to run in a home (power, noise). Until more people start mining and increase the speed of the network, you can expect that transactions are gonna take a long time.

Zadig equivalent for OS X?
by
0bit
on 21/03/2016, 18:28:44 UTC
I am running OS X 10.11.3 on a computer I want to mine with, but one of the devices won't initialize in cgminer (failed to initialize, incorrect device?). I downloaded the proper drivers and restarted my computer but there is no change. I was told the only solution was to run Zadig, because I needed to re-associate the usb driver the device uses. Since there is no Zadig build for OSX, what program could I use instead?

Thanks
