they probably lost alot of money when they had the recruitment "drive", if you referred someone you and him both got 20$. Im sad that they are gone, I could easily store usd in my account without paying fees (wire etc) and keep them without having to buy them. People say use coinbase, but they don't support my state and coinbase thinks their program knows my town better than me even though Ive lived here for 18 years. Sure the name was funky but who cares they did what they offered well (for me at least).
please please please make sure you look into backing up your wallet properly. The amount of threads related to people losing their wallet is insane, and it doesnt take that much time away from your in the first place.
Most of these tips are precautions. Just try to buy and sell from someone who has a good reputation and wants to maintain it.
The only issue I have with following these tips is it encourages people to not go to new users...but for good reason. I just wish there were more people in my area selling/buying bitcoin Im not to sure what Im doing wrong. Everything up to step 4 (4. Download and install Electrum) worked. I tapped on e4a install (Tap e4a_install.py: it will download and install a directory named "e4a-2.0"). When I do that I get some more options, which I clicked on everyone of the options in hope that something happens. But I dont know where the newly created directory is so I have know way of knowing if it worked or not.*Edit I have looked up the user guide for python, but it doesn't help because I don't know where the directory is.
I started a small bitcoin blog in my senior year of high school (this year), and I think it was one of the reasons that I got accepted to colleges that were a little above my level.
I have a dell laptop and it has 8 Gb of ram and 1.80ghz processor DDR3 good graphics card and all that , I was wondering if it is possible to run a Mining rig on it , im getting some bitcoin miners from amazon soon so inform me as best as you can, thanks 
Hmm, if you're planning to mine bitcoins directly from those hardware, I strongly advise you to not execute your plan. You'll end up paying your power bill higher than it was before and may end up getting a burned-out rig. Mining operations are profitable for those who have enough $$$ to buy the most advanced hardware and operate in a large scale. For the solo miners, it is a downhill road to lost your investment. Mining bitcoins with such hardware are profitable back in 2009-10, but as of today, I don't think you'll even make 1 bitcoin within a span of 2 years.
Well if you still want to continue mining, try searching for an altcoin that has some promising features that may be successful and might come out in exchanges. Try holding on some large amounts (and I suggest you to mine it when it still has low difficulty) and release those coins into an exchange whenever you think that you already have a good profit from it.
You would end up losing money, even with a gpu. Your better of buying a bitcoin miner and even then its not the best idea if electricity costs alot. I wanted to buy a bitcoin miner but ended up forcing myself not to because it was to much of a risk and I might never see a return/break even.
I recommend greenaddress.it, they have been my go to wallet for most of my funds (Until I got into hardware wallets). They are a multisignature wallet, which adds a huge layer of security. Its really easy to use and accessible on the go to.
I'm gonna have to vote for Trezor, definitively proved its worth to me. Before I bought a Trezor I was using a raspberry pi cold storage. Trezor works so much better than using a computer/notebook dedicated to acting as a wallet. I don't lose any sleep over using a Trezor because my seeds is written down safely and nothing can happen to it, I could burn and smash my trezor and still be able to recover my funds. The form factor is great to, with a netbook I doubt you want to carry that to a shop, and once more wallets support trezor on mobile systems it will be perfect solution.
