Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay

I was most interested in their solution for this. I like that you can give specific ratings and leave a comment like on many e-commerce sites. They might want to throw in a "reply" type of thing if someone leaves a reputation comment that is untrue so the merchant can give his side. The detailed moderator rating is good too, it's good that it separates between winners and losers.

Yes, a follow up comment is always helpful. Many negatives can be false or untrue or based on minor disagreements that the buyer left in frustration. I think the feedback system here should have a similar option so others can voice their side of the situation.

Methods of growing your Bitcoin?
I run faucets of an other kind and my bitcoin are growing...little by little.

This is also one of the good way to increase your coins and also you can start lending your coins for some small % of interest with proper collateral. This also will grow your coins decently.

Running a faucet and lending coins are not good ways to make coins. Even running a faucet site doesn't make much and lending your coins makes dust and you're likely to get scammed at some point.

I doubt Satoshi would have been able to cover all his tracks.. Something like this is easily overlooked, besides, I doubt he was trying that hard in the beginning..

Well he's done a pretty good job so far. I think if you set out with the mindset to remain anon and know what you're doing it's not impossible. If I wanted to create a account with the intention of remaining 100% anon I think I could do it personally though wouldn't really have the need to.

Re: What's your biggest problem with Bitcoin
by

after a few weeks playing with bitcoin, for me, the biggest problem are the FEES.

People keep spreading the wrong message that bitcoin fees are cheaper than fiat-c, and sometimes people says that bitcoin don't have fees.... BUT in fact, i never paid fees in fiat-c transactions, they are free in europe, and in bitcoin i am paying fees in every transaction... I am playing with some wallets, moving some bits from one to another and i pay fees that are bigger than the amount i am transferring! this is a huge NO for new users.

People here in europe are accustomed to free transactions and when they see the fees in bitcoin, they turn down bitcoin world. it is very sad Sad I am a bit disappointed too, if i am honest Sad

Fees might be low to zero to send in your own country but not worldwide. Besides, for most bitcoin transactions you can send for free as long as it's not dust. I have sent many transactions without paying any fees though I normally add a little something to help the network/miners.

Re: Bitcoin or gold?
by

Supply - demand
That is all you need to know. If the supply is less and demand remains the same, then the price increases. The value of a bitcoin is irrelevant just as the price of an ounce of gold does not matter. That's why people buy gold in amounts smaller than 1 oz. now that prices are high.
If demand continues to go up there may come a day when people say; "You own a whole bitcoin!!!"

How is the value of bitcoin or gold irrelevant? Of course the price matters. People wouldn't invest in something if they knew it was going to lose them money. Gold is more of a safer bet and will hold its value well but as an investment it's not that great, and that's where bitcoin can excell.

it was basic savings strategy i think, 20% of our total income. i did it in past 5 years and it's working , i can bought a new car with my unused savings.

20% is a good and safe amount. I think over time bitcoin will be a very sound investment and definitly give you better interest over even a high interest bank account.

@1986
You can download a free copy on http://www.iamsatoshi.com/ulterior-states-documentary

Is there just a torrent? No direct link or a filehoster?

Trailer looks a bit cheaply edited but I'll give it a watch.

Not cool  Undecided

now you can pay with btc but its $0.50 more
It's released and available here & on vimeo : https://www.theprotocol.tv/bitcoin-the-end-of-money-as-we-know-it/ however it's not free . It seems like we should pay 6$ BTC to see it

Charing people more to use bitcoin? That isn't right. It should be less if anything. Didn't they crowndfund it anyway? Should release it on torrents so they can spread it like bitcoin for free  Cheesy.

Isn't it possible for the gov to force the openbazaar devs to shut it down if they wanted to?

If it's decentralized then how can they force them to shut down as there's no central authority to attack? IT would be like going after satoshi to take down bitcoin or trying to take down a torrent client. Besides, many more decentralized markets will pop up sooner rather than later and many will be open source. The best one will prevail.

Re: looking to try mining for fun and cheap - what are my options?
by

on 26/06/2015, 16:47:27 UTC
Hi guys,

I like the idea of crypto currency and thought it would be fun to try mining. I have been reading up on the more popular currencies, I.e BTC and litecoin. It seems mining for profit is pointless unless large scale and using specialised hardware, I would like to see at least some cents worth.
I have Mini itx size pc if any random coins still use gpu mining, otherwise I thought perhaps a Raspberry and usb miner like Antminer U3 etc.
Is there any coins that are not too difficult to mine and is not totally volatile? As stated I'm not looking to make profits, just experience budget mining and see something in a wallet and I would like it keep is small and quiet like a raspberry project etc.
Thank you

Hardware mining is so 2013. Have not you heard of cloud mining ?

Not the same though is it? Like comparing virtual sex to real sex. And most cloud mining companies are just investment scams with no real mining taking place, so you'd be better off investing your money elsewhere.

I can pay 0.1btc for the account.

U must be jocking...

This is why you should state the price you're after and see what offers you get otherwise you will get lowballs from jokers. Senior accounts aren't worth that much anymore though so I wouldn't expect to get much more than double what he offered.

Re: Is it helpful or harmful to the Bitcoin to offer products/services only in BTC?
by

From a business perspective I don't think it's good to only offer bitcoin payments but that's up to you. I'd create a store and accept as many payments options as I could including bitcoin. You would then get more customers from both sides as bitcoiners would chose your store over others because they could use their coins as opposed to the many stores where they cant and are forced to use their cash alternatives.

I'm most excited about decentralized markets and exchanges. I think those two things are badly needed to stop scams, but I'm also excited about certain industries adopting bitcoin to save money like the remittance market or even the adult and gambling industries.
