Re: Beats Headphones Cost $14 to Make
by

on 25/03/2015, 13:43:25 UTC
A perfect example of why you can sell anything if you market it good enough.  You can find $50 headphones that sound just as good, but everybody wants the name.

http://allhiphop.com/2014/05/13/dr-dres-beats-by-dre-cost-an-estimated-14-to-make/

I agree! Beats by Dr Dre success is a result of genius marketing to the point where people are paying a lot mostly because of the brand. General consensus today is that these are the headphones to have. Ofcourse, there are better or similar quality headphones to be had for less cost, but at the end of the day it's about if most of the customers are happy with their Beats, be it the brand or the quality, they will buy it.

Personally, I admire Beats by Dr Dre because they have a good piece of business, and also I have thought about how you would go at marketing headphones and I really come up with nothing unless I would be famous or have a person of authority with me when it comes to sound.

Beats by Dr Dre are able to have these margins because they are the benchmark of headphones, and because they own a huge marketshare they can charge nearly whatever they want. Anyone trying to undercut them, or sell somewhat quality headphones for cheap, most customers will now think these products are bad because of their low price. All of this is a result of marketing, and it is not exclusive to this market, for example cosmetics comes to mind where good marketing from a famous person can create high demand on incredibly cheap products because of said famous person backing it usually leads to a desirable brand.

Voted no, I don't think it will happend, atleast not in my lifetime. Maybe I have the dangerous mindset of 'it is too big to fail' but I am more inclined to believe we will see the Euro collapse long before the USD does.

Re: Decentralized exchanges will never work
by
5000Bitcoins
on 03/03/2015, 11:55:59 UTC
So, every now and then I see a post about the beauty of a decentralized exchange. Well here's the thing. You can't get USD on a Decentralized Exchange, adding new coins to trade will always be a headache, and since there won't be any censorship, scamming with new, random, 2 day old altcoins will be abundant, among other things

Decentralized Exchanges sound good in theory, but in practice it just isn't plausible.

I agree the USD part will be a hassle however I am certain some solution will be found to this.

and since there won't be any censorship, scamming with new, random, 2 day old altcoins will be abundant, among other things

I disagree with this as an argument, participating in a decentralized market you must look after yourself, since there is no central authority who will severely punish those who do bad, it is inevitable people will do bad, but as with BTC the good tends to outweigh the bad. If you can't handle due dilligence on your own, with common sense then trading in a centralized market is just better.

Having your money at a bank is better than having it in BTC if you can't look after yourself or take the occasional hit because of the higher risk it usually carries. That's putting it plain and simple. For most, having money at a bank is better. But if you can fully understand, encrypt and have a wallet on your computer, BTC is better. Decentralized means that you and you alone carry the responsibility, because you believe you can handle it better than said authority, so it is not logical to use this argument against the theory of a decentralized exchange..

Oh well, Monday should be interesting...

Btw, can someone post the text behind the pay wall? Thanks.

Agreed that it's been a while since news caused the price of BTC to go up instead of down. Good thing.

I believe it to be of importance to contribute to society and those less fortunate, ofcourse not all of taxes paid go towards what you want them to according to your beliefs, but I think that the majority of it do. Ofcourse, there can be severe repurcussions if you don't pay it, which also plays a part in the decision.

Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it?
by
5000Bitcoins
on 02/03/2015, 09:45:08 UTC
Will I make it?

I, like many others in this thread believe it to start happening in 2016-2017.

I also took the risk and exchanged fiat to BTC starting early 2014 to September which, in total, were slashed with more than 60% on an average, I decided to cut more than half of my holdings as losses, and convert back to fiat and diversify more into a few selected safe stocks, and I am not currently buying any more BTC because I believe we might see it lower or not moving for some time, which is not necessarily a bad thing considering price stability is much needed, but I am taking some precautions this time regarding speculating. I also think a lot of projects got funded in BTC and converted it to fiat, and most of these projects have not yet returned that value back to BTC yet, because building things and getting a userbase take time.

If circumstances were to change I would be ready, but I think 2016 will be the year good APPs expand outside of crypto after having a development phase within, which will be good for the ecosystem, currently it is too difficult to use many of the perks BTC offers which hinders mass adoption, and also it is not as low fees as it could be since exchanges and other services have some fees, competition will drive these fees down. I am also excited over what Ethereum might bring to the table.

All in all if you want to be more sure about your investment, try becoming involved and making a difference for crypto so that we can approach mass adoption faster.

When i'm trying to withdraw my Supernet/Unity of BTER, it keeps saying "Invalid Fund Password".
It's been quite some time since i've used BTER, could someone please explain what that is / where i get that since every password i've tried under the sun doesnt work.

Thanks!

You have one login password, then one fund password for withdrawing funds.
You can go Account > Security settings > Reset Fund Password and it will send to your email once you enter your login password there.

Strategic angels include the co-founder of King (Candy Crush Saga), head of growth at Facebook, SVP of business at Uber, President of Hotwire, and dozens of other tech and media founders and executives. Strategic advisors include Alex Norstrom, VP of growth for Spotify; Jackson Palmer, creator of Dogecoin; and Brock Pierce, serial entrepreneur and Bitcoin Foundation board member.

So, seems stamp is having some issues and thought I'd revisit the idea..

Multisigs wallets will never be used by exchanges until customers demands it.

How much does a 10%, 30%, 70%, gain matter when your balance could be wiped out at a whim?

Why is it in a decentralized world we choose to leave money with the exchanges and trust one guy to keep it safe?

If you do work for supernet, can you apply for some funding or is it pre-determined who get's paid?

Not sure exactly what's needed right now, but saw this earlier; https://nxtforum.org/unity/supernetx2-and-the-centralized-product-management-team-(cpmt)/
basically the people working on the supernet core + helping core projects are getting some kinda salary.

I'm sure more of those kinds of arrangements are to follow, anyhow, there are a variety of jobs you can do within supernet (not necessarily paid in Supernet but in other currencies or assets) because there are so many different projects needing different things, just checking in on slack and announcing what you can do should be a solid step, mostly it's about good timing I think and some patience to find something to do!
If you have an idea/look for work you can PM me and I'll probably know within a few minutes if you got good chances of finding work here or partners for an idea, or I can post on slack for you, or you can join yourself

Looking for someone to make a cool SN signature
Looking for a good web dev for a pretty simple task for project Pangea (1-5 days.)
I posted this to #services too. Slack or not.. give me a PM if you are interested in either or both and let's see if we can agree upon something

And merry christmas to everyone, I think (know) 2015 will be the year for SuperNet and Pangea!

Post this in proper section and you will get response.

I'll post it there too! I was posting it here because maybe someone already within SuperNet slack can/wants to do it, but since we are already over 300 people, a lot of stuff there get lost in the noise.

but noted, it does no good for the discussion in here, but on the other hand it may do good to the value of SN.

so I'll take a chance with it, I hope you can bear with me!

I've been a SuperNET investor since day 10 or so, been lingering in the slack, been making friends with the movers and shakers.  I can honestly say I have never been more impressed with a coin community.  Which is saying something because I usually hate coin communities...  even of the coins I invest in.

There is a bunch of super smart guys here.  I never lost an ounce of faith and even bought 50% more as it dropped towards .008.  Yes this is a total fan boy post but I'm excited to see the future and happy to be here - and while the price brought me here to read the last few pages, my happiness has nothing to do with the short term gains.  I have an eye to the future and this one is going to be good.

I find myself less and less on bitcointalk because slack has a better, friendlier atmosphere and we all in our different ways work towards the same goal.
I've meet a lot of good and smart people here that I without a doubt consider my friends!
I share your view, it's hard to find a community that suits your interests and I for one never thought I would be a part of any community whatsoever.. since I am mostly a reader, and on the net, I am used to being passive, being that I often have a lot of people around me in real life, I've found myself being too tired to engage in communities in the past, but that view has drastically changed and slack is now a daily visit for me! on several occasions too, I might add..

Anyway.. I think the recent price increase is bots pushing it up, not sure bots not really my forte, but the vote of confidence is cool nevertheless
I can't even speculate on what the price will be first when most tech is done, and then when we start seeing some revenues coming.
I'm also excited about what the future holds and I'm keeping a close eye on supernet aswell as most projects within it, including my own!

on another note, to everyone reading this, if you got an idea for something that can be made within crypto, but maybe lack the skills, do visit the slack and maybe you can find someone with the skills whom currently sits around without an idea.

I'm still trying to understand SuperNET...

Personally, I ignore the coins involved in it.. frankly because they do not interest me all that much.
Supernet is designed to be more of a platform that offers a whole lot of different stuff. All from coins to services.

How I view it, it's just altcoins and what's withins last stand and a good attempt at bringing in some traditional investing into crypto.
I think of it more like a bunch of start-ups united. That's what's excites me. It's like Palo Alto packed into Slack.

I think if even 10-30% of what it sets out to do will be done then current price is crazy undervalued. But most people still think coins. And look for new coins.
The only way to show people a different era of investing, is to show them the money. so I expect when things get done, things will be viewed differently
I like the idea of a decentralized structure to create businesses.. see, you buy an asset, you get a piece of the business (and bet that they'll do profit in the future.)
Apps built in a decentralized structure has such little costs compared to the fiatworld, and they can be up and running forever.
When you build something like what I and a couple others are working on (Pangea) you don't just get the local userbase of your town, but you get access globally.. borders don't matter or limit the businesses! I find that fascinating. what I hope for in the future, is that when people get an idea, they don't think "I must create a coin for this!" but rather I hope they'll think "I'll create an asset for this, and create a viable businessplan to generate revenues."

Because it is just so much better, to build something that can stay viable and increase in value for a couple years here, rather than a coin that dies when a few people in the top100 decides to sell it. I've seen it happend far too many times, everyone has the desire to buy a certain coin, but when it drops, it's worth nothing to no one anymore! So, I figure if people would establish a different mindset, create something that generates revenues, people could invest, and if the marketprice would drop, they'd have solid numbers to fall back on, instead of waiting for the new roadmap or the new wallet with enhanced UI.

Anyway to summarize Supernet as a whole just hold a % in these businesses (and some coins), so for the lazy researchers just buying Supernet is good enough if something within it interests you. Some of the core assets also hold different sets of businesses, but in turn they are held by Supernet (just to simplifiy things, or for whatever other reasons there is!) But, if I'd have to be blunt about buying now, I think, it'll be some time before one sees real numbers. First the tech gets done, then apps done then integrated into Supernet, and then, the businesses must have some time to build userbases to generate revenues. So I think there'll be buys and sell-offs in different cycles, and the price won't move much until the numbers are there, as it should!

Anyway I think most crypto investors has some kind of desire to be considered VCs because buying currencies or businesses has never been so easy, so this is pretty much like investing in a tech start-up, without necessarily the need to have unrealistic amounts of money to buy a percentage.
If things go well, you get rewarded, if things don't, there'll be a struggle to make it happend! But start-ups are risky stuff. On the plus side of things the outgoing costs for things are so small in such structure. On the minus side the crypto userbase for services is limited so future revenues made from the different services may also be / or cap fast easily. So doing things to make it easier for fiat people is prio. To break the barrier.. the learning curve between fiat and crypto is vital!

either way I think we'll have 300 people in our Slack this weekend, I am not sure how many are doing something Supernet related, I'm sure that some are just investors, but a lot of developers, enthusiasts etcetera creating new ideas then trying to see it through, get the revenues to successfully make some money for themselves and their investors. Best of all, it's not a zero-sum like alts.. if things go well, everybody involved wins.

Maybe not exactly the info you were asking for, but this is the info that matters to me the most, and what I can personally understand, then I stick to that and filter out the rest!

Just wanted to let people know I set up a channel in the Supernet slack called #services

It's just a simple chatroom that hopefully can match someone looking for work with someone looking to hire. Either that, or a place where people can team up for new projects together!

Personally I frequented /r/Jobs4Bitcoin a while back and it struck me how small it was, and how hard it was to find people for different tasks. I estimate it has around 1000 visitors a week.
To top it off, it is a hard place to find good people. So, I figured.. the supernet slack currently has 280 people in it.
Most of them are coders of some sort. And being within Supernet slack it's clear they know their crypto!

I also created this chatroom for people to easily offer their services to one another. For example, for Pangea I am exploring the options for efficient marketing with limited budget and one which comes to mind is a sig campaign on BCT, among other things. and I also suspect other projects within Supernet will want to hire marketeers down the line too once their pieces of business go from developing phase to the expanding phase. And then they might be looking to hire in this channel.

I really agree.. have requirements to browse the forum a X amount of time before being able to post. This forum could really need this, I've seen a substantial increase in newbie troll or bump accounts as of lately. They are inevitable but a thing like this would decrease the amount of them, and contribute to better content here.
