Lots of interesting designs/concepts in here, ranging from messy-all-over-the-place setups to neatly organized racks. Mine use to be inside just a normal case, but temperatures got too high so now mine is the first option I mentioned haha. Takes up so much dam space.

Wow bitcoin has changed so much since last time I looked at it. Yes I've been under a rock this whole time, price shot up to $1200 and now down to $600. And this this whole centralization thing.

There really needs to be another exchange site. Bitcoin is not very decentralized if nearly all trading happens at a "centralized" place.

That's less than $1 away, it should easily happen at this rate.

Then why wasn't "greed" a reason for this last year, or why demand all of a sudden jumped up? I just got back into it, so don't know if a few large companies or individuals started to buy up a shit ton of BTC to inflate the price.

I was actually going to "retire" from this whole bitcoin ordeal and cash out, but to my surprise, price now shot up to $24 from $7 last time I was active. Guess I'll be around a little longer  Cool

I've been out of bitcoin for a while, but I did have 2 cards constantly mining since last year. I just checked up btc value, and it shot up to around $24. Last time I was involved, it was at a measly $7. Any reason obvious reason for such a huge increase?

Nope, not going to happen. Amazon or other large companies will never do these kind of decentralized and risky forms of payments.

Holy shit, how did that happen? Did you overload the board with multiple high end GPUs? You need one of those ribbon extenders with the power molex man. That'll offload current draw directly through the PSU instead of through the motherboard.

Re: I bought a Roosewill Capstone PSU
by

Rosewills are garbage PSUs. I've read this for a while now, but decided to take a chance. So I bought my first Rosewill PSU, I loaded it to 1/3 of the capacity, and it made a little click, never turned on again.

The thing about Rosewill is that they do not make their own. It's newegg's generic brand. So if you truly want to find out of it's good or not, you'll have to open it up to find out who the OEM is, and dig info on that OEM's track record.

Hey how accurate is this halving day? I could change by a day or two based on total network speed, right?

Nope, won't happen. Could have claimed anything since there are no proof of these ASICs even existing yet.

Haven't been following for the past few months. So these ASICs are still happening? I was under the assumption this whole thing was a huge scam. This thread pretty much confirms that they'll happen, but basically since everyone will have one, then no one will profit.

Move from $5 to $10

I've been out of bitcoin for a couple months, just came back to it now. When I left, BTC was at $5 for a looong time, and now I find out it shot up to over $10/BTC within a week or two. Any reason for this? Some investor got back into the game temporarily?

Re: New graphics/video cards
by
ARapalo
on 09/09/2012, 00:43:26 UTC
Is there any graphics/video cards coming out any time soon that would be good for mining? I'm thinking about building a rig with two AMD Radeon HD 5970's and I don't want to spend money on those cards if something better is coming out in the next 6 months - one year.

Just to make sure you realize what you are getting into.  In about 19 weeks the block reward will drop to 25 BTC per day.  While that has been known for a while, nobody knows what the difficulty will be by then or in the months after.  What is known is that difficulty has been steadily rising again, even with this deadline looming as the rising exchange rate has caused profitability to rise to relatively high levels.

Anyone with near average or above average electric rates will likely not be able to mine profitably come December, unless the exchange rate rises above $10 or so.    So unless you pay under $0.10 per kWh, you might want to rethink buying a new GPU card if the only reason you are looking to do so is for mining.

The other wildcard is the date for when ASIC designs ship and in what quantity.  They have the ability to completely obliterate GPU mining profitability in just a matter of days.

Now if you were considering a GPU card for gaming and would mine on it as well, then none of this really matters, you mgiht as well go for it and get a few months of decent mining revenue while it lasts.
Awesome post! Looks like GPU mining is not as profitable as before, especially building a rig specifically to mine with. So when will these ASICs start to release?

Lol I did a quick google search of Butterfly labs and came upon this thread. Read the first few pages, and it looks like DiabloD3, you just damaged reps for you and your company.
