I'm fairly new to this as well, but I use Mineco.in and NoFeeMining.com.   They are two new pools that just started recently.

Because I'm a Libertarian and figured if the Federal Reserve is allowed to make money illegally why can't I!

THIS MAN IS A SCAM ARTIST.

They've used sockpuppets, used CSRF to gain money, and the site "they" are promoting has huge security risks. STAY AWAY.

No biggie, not putting any actual money into their site, and the email I used is a junk mail address for me anyway.  I am more than willing to the risk that they spam my junk email folder to get .5 btc!

I've been cpu mining for about three weeks, and it has been useful just for me to see how it works, what gets done, and help me decide to possibly build a rig.  You won't get rich, for sure, but it is a useful learning experience.

wow, this thread answered a lot for me. Sorta.
I was wondering what I needed to backup in the install to keep the balance safe.
The wallet.dat is where?
I've search for a wallet.dat and can't find one.

hmmm...

If you are windows 7, it's 'hidden' in the appdata folder.  go to %appdata% and look in the bitcoin folder.

I don't know that it's the right way to do it, but i copy my wallet.dat to a flash drive, and delete the copy on my computer.  Then, whenever I need it, I can just copy the thumbdrive copy back to my computer, use it, copy it back to my thumbdrive when done, and delete the copy on my computer again.

Wow, this pool has grown a great deal in the past day!!  And I have to believe we are close to finding our first block soon!! And I would love to be the one that gets lucky and finds it!! lol
you clearly do not understand how mining works.

LOL, I am still very new to this, to be sure.
The outcome of each hash is independent of any hashes that are before it. in other words, after hashing for one year (and not getting anything), the chances of you getting a block is still the same.

I did not realize that, thanks!

Did you create a bitcoin.conf file?  That will store your username and password so that the miner can log into the client. (I think)

The appdata folder is hidden in Windows 7, but you can go to C:/users/yourname and then type /appdata in the menu bar and it will go to the folder.

Downloaded and love it!  Very basic, but certainly nice to have available!  Also like the converter, lets me know just how futile my mining has been!! lol

I really do like it, keep up the great work!

As far as number 5, you should try GUI-miner.  Very simple to setup and use.

i need a cpu miner program i tryed to run 2 but they are not working please help a newbie im running windows xp

I've been using GUI-Miner and I love it.  Very easy setup, and can run multiple miner's at once.  If you go to the mining section under miner software, you can find it.  I don't know about the WinXP, though.

Ahh the days of cpu mining, it's like the days of punchcards.

HAHA, yea, I feel like I equate it to trying to get on the internet from my Commodore 64.  Not much happening!
