Hey guys, I was thinking of getting a couple of these and cooling them with Corsair H110 coolers and powering them with either Sidehack's break out board and Dell D750 PSU (which I know will successfully supply 950watts because I'm doing that right now on a fully populated BitFury M-Board gear PLUS a S1) *OR* one of the HP DPS-800 units (which will also do 1KW).  Any reason I should run away from this idea?  Many thank for your reply(s).

H@shKraker.

Make sure you slap some fans on that radiator that have a high static pressure and I think you're good to go.  I've got some Scythe Typhoons that I use on my radiators for PC Watercooling but if noise is not an issue some good server fans will work.

Data center usage only. Holy cow the sound from that thing is like nails on a chalkboard times a million!

Holy crap on a stick.  That's loud even for Data center.  Only time I've ever heard that sound was when a piece of hardware is initializing or thinks something is wrong.  That's the sound of fans running 100%.

just out of curiosity - has anyone calc'd what these need to cost to be 100% certain of a decent roi - not just breaking even

My current personal metric when paying $$ for any hardware is $1/GH.  Not a whole lot of available choices at that amount so I try to get as close as possible.

Re: Antminer S1 - Extreme Overclocking? How far can it go?
by

The documented limit is 120G per chain so 240G total.  I've seen some people post that they had an S1 go slightly above 200G but nothing close to the documented limit.

https://github.com/AntMiner/AntGen1/tree/master/PCB

Limitation

Only support 1 or 2 chains.
Total Hash rate cannot be more than 120G per chain.

Limitation

Only support 1 or 2 chains.
Total Hash rate can not be more than 120G per chain.

Future: We are designing a type of new control board based on ARM A8. When it is ready, the chain number can be up to 16, and the chip number can be up to 256 per chain.

Nice.

THere is no internal stock fan?
Or you use the extra ones for safety?

It has no fans so you need to add them or the supplies thermal protection will kick in and shutdown.

How are you cooling the psus with those side fans?  I cannot clearly see any hole?

Here's a photo showing the perforated sides on the supply,

@Abraxas601 if I use this psu on 110v, it'll work(undervolted)?

Nope, this supply requires a 200-240v input and will not work with 110v.

wow 1500 that's a lot more then  i expected, doesn't look too reasonable at that price lvl.

I was bummed about the price also but it's about what I expected.  The $1500 appears to be on par with other current 1W/GHs offerings.  What's attractive about the S1 is it's about $1/GHs.  Imagine if all the currently available 1W/GHs products were priced at $1/GHs.

Even though this is mainly a hobby for me I still like to see a little ROI and unfortunately I just can't justify spending $1500 on the habanero.

I should have mentioned that the deal I posted is good for people going the normal PSU route. Of course server psu's can be cheaper. I have been researching them, but there seems to be too many variables to work out, or I'm overcomplicating things. Most every full guide I see shows using a 750w psu. I need my ants running at max gh/s no matter the extra cost of power because my power is cheap. And the 750 won't allow me to run 2 fully oc'd.

You can use IBM 2000w which is cheap again and very easy to use. Its server again psu but than u can run 4 s1 on one psu.

I can confirm as many as 6 running on the IBM DPS-2000BB.  All of mine are OC'd to 393 and have been running this way for nearly a month.  The supply has an input rating of 13.5A and I've measured the current draw at the breaker to be 10A.  So 6 OC'd ants are a good number for this supply.

Here's all the info you need to get started with one,

Does it need to be a PC power supply?
Or will a simple 12V 100A supply work with the right cable/connectors?

ADVthaAnksNCE

Shouldn't matter as long as the source can provide the required DC 12V and Current.  Source could be a generator, battery, solar cells, warp core...

It's going well. I haven't done as much testing as I'd like since I sent out the boards I made to ChipGeek and Gateway for testing/coding purposes. Firmware work is coming along well, and will be done by the time we're ready to assemble them.

The current plan is to have the assembly house accept all the parts by May 6th for kitting in order to have assembly start May 9th, with surface mount, through hole and test occurring concurrently the following week. The production revision of the PCB has been sent to the board house, and they will be ready in time to be delivered on the 6th.

I'm currently bench testing a board to get a better handle on the numbers to give us some baselines that all the boards should hit and that we feel comfortable advertising the board at, as well as testing more extreme situations in order to push the limits. Once that's done we'll open the store here right away to orders.

Many thanks for update. It looks like it's coming well together Smiley
Rough math on dates it looks like another 4-5 weeks ?  Grin

Thank you again and hurry up  Grin
I am going to guess we'll call this a May batch, and any shipping before the end of May will be a bonus. I would guess that it will be sooner, but I'd rather have pleasantly surprised customers than disappointed ones.

As a point of reference, for the first batch of Chilis we got parts to the assembly house on Oct 7th, assembly started on Oct 9th and first units shipped Oct 14th, with the last ones going out the 18th. I imagine the Habanero will take a little longer to process though.

You are absolutely right with the fact that rather say later than sooner. People here go ballistic even if you are 1 day late. SCAM SCAM lol.
I'm resisting from buying Ants S1's since I have heard about your project. 1 chip with 4 cores is true advancement at least in my eyes and not 640 chips on 5 boards Smiley

Keep up the good work and please be competitive with the pricing I would not like to bang my head that I didn't buy them Ants at the end Smiley

Ya, I was holding off on another S1 purchase but since it looks like at least a good month before Habanero availability I think I'll purchase 4 more Ants at the new BTC price they just posted.

I'm definitely not buying an S2 though since I'm enjoying what I see from the Habanero.  I'm hoping your pricing can be competitive with the Chinese offerings.

How in the world did you get Batch 3 when they haven't released it yet?

It was more like a batch 2B but people are referring to it as Batch 3.

As a hobbyist and DIY person I'm looking forward to a product that supports a variety of off the shelf power, cooling, and mounting solutions that allows me to come up with creative ways to support the product in my own environment.

Complete products like the Antminers are nice but I get a lot more enjoyment playing with very basic products that allow me to be creative.

I recently purchased this in preparation,

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028AYQDC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Right now I'm running BFL Singles, Asicminer blades and cubes, and Antminer S1 hardware.  The calculations show I'm producing around 14,000BTU so I'll probably start shutting down all the less efficient hardware first.  I'll probably power the cubes off first and just keep going until the AC is able to maintain 80F without running constantly.  I'm estimating I will be able to consume 3000W at the wall and properly cool the room.  If I shutdown everything but the Antminers then that will just be 2000W of consumption and leave me with 1000W for new hardware.

When winter returns I can start ramping up again.

I had to shuffle the pins around but it's almost an exact replacement for the existing fan if you want something with the same or similar specs.

You can also make a 4-pin or 3-pin connector work.  You just need to shave off the piece of guide plastic on the connector that gets in the way.

I was wondering if there is a software out there that would allow me to check 6 Antminer's Status' simultaneously instead of loging in to individual ip address, perhaps I could enter all ip address' and passwords and then the software would show all 6 antminer's statuses?

any help would be appreciated.

I've been thinking about trying CGWatcher,

First assumption of any business owner,

1) You're customers are idiots.  If they were smart they wouldn't need you.

This idiot looks forward to your products.
