Re: Bitcoin Core 0.21.1 Released
by
Alice1989
on 24/06/2021, 09:42:50 UTC
0.21.1 Release Notes

Bitcoin Core version 0.21.1 is now available from:

https://bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.21.1/

This minor release includes various bug fixes and performance
improvements, as well as updated translations.

Please report bugs using the issue tracker at GitHub:

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues

To receive security and update notifications, please subscribe to:

https://bitcoincore.org/en/list/announcements/join/

How to Upgrade

If you are running an older version, shut it down. Wait until it has completely
shut down (which might take a few minutes in some cases), then run the
installer (on Windows) or just copy over /Applications/Bitcoin-Qt (on Mac)
or bitcoind/bitcoin-qt (on Linux).

Upgrading directly from a version of Bitcoin Core that has reached its EOL is
possible, but it might take some time if the data directory needs to be migrated. Old
wallet versions of Bitcoin Core are generally supported.

Compatibility

Bitcoin Core is supported and extensively tested on operating systems
using the Linux kernel, macOS 10.12+, and Windows 7 and newer.  Bitcoin
Core should also work on most other Unix-like systems but is not as
frequently tested on them.  It is not recommended to use Bitcoin Core on
unsupported systems.

From Bitcoin Core 0.20.0 onwards, macOS versions earlier than 10.12 are no
longer supported. Additionally, Bitcoin Core does not yet change appearance
when macOS "dark mode" is activated.

Notable changes

Taproot Soft Fork

Included in this release are the mainnet and testnet activation
parameters for the taproot soft fork (BIP341) which also adds support
for schnorr signatures (BIP340) and tapscript (BIP342).

If activated, these improvements will allow users of single-signature
scripts, multisignature scripts, and complex contracts to all use
identical-appearing commitments that enhance their privacy and the
fungibility of all bitcoins. Spenders will enjoy lower fees and the
ability to resolve many multisig scripts and complex contracts with the
same efficiency, low fees, and large anonymity set as single-sig users.
Taproot and schnorr also include efficiency improvements for full nodes
such as the ability to batch signature verification.  Together, the
improvements lay the groundwork for future potential
upgrades that may improve efficiency, privacy, and fungibility further.

Activation for taproot is being managed using a variation of BIP9
versionbits called Speedy Trial (described in BIP341). Taproot's
versionbit is bit 2, and nodes will begin tracking which blocks signal
support for taproot at the beginning of the first retarget period after
taproot’s start date of 24 April 2021.  If 90% of blocks within a
2,016-block retarget period (about two weeks) signal support for taproot
prior to the first retarget period beginning after the time of 11 August
2021, the soft fork will be locked in, and taproot will then be active
as of block 709632 (expected in early or mid November).

Should taproot not be locked in via Speedy Trial activation, it is
expected that a follow-up activation mechanism will be deployed, with
changes to address the reasons the Speedy Trial method failed.

This release includes the ability to pay taproot addresses, although
payments to such addresses are not secure until taproot activates.
It also includes the ability to relay and mine taproot transactions
after activation.  Beyond those two basic capabilities, this release
does not include any code that allows anyone to directly use taproot.
The addition of taproot-related features to Bitcoin Core's wallet is
expected in later releases once taproot activation is assured.

All users, businesses, and miners are encouraged to upgrade to this
release (or a subsequent compatible release) unless they object to
activation of taproot.  If taproot is locked in, then upgrading before
block 709632 is highly recommended to help enforce taproot's new rules
and to avoid the unlikely case of seeing falsely confirmed transactions.

Miners who want to activate Taproot should preferably use this release
to control their signaling.  The getblocktemplate RPC results will
automatically be updated to signal once the appropriate start has been
reached and continue signaling until the timeout occurs or taproot
activates.  Alternatively, miners may manually start signaling on bit 2
at any time; if taproot activates, they will need to ensure they update
their nodes before block 709632 or non-upgraded nodes could cause them to mine on
an invalid chain.  See the versionbits
FAQ
for
details.

For more information about taproot, please see the following resources:

Updated RPCs
  • Due to BIP 350
being implemented, behavior for all RPCs that accept addresses is changed when
a native witness version 1 (or higher) is passed. These now require a Bech32m
encoding instead of a Bech32 one, and Bech32m encoding will be used for such
addresses in RPC output as well. No version 1 addresses should be created
for mainnet until consensus rules are adopted that give them meaning
      (e.g. through BIP 341).
Once that happens, Bech32m is expected to be used for them, so this shouldn't
affect any production systems, but may be observed on other networks where such
addresses already have meaning (like signet).

Is someone worried about the recent decline of BTC? Don't worry, and it won't lose BTC's momentum in the future. A new report from Whalemap shows the largest cluster of whale coins in the range is 120,000 BTC at $ 58,000. As such, the lowest price can drop now at $ 52,000

$ 52,000 “Should Be BTC Floor.”

It could drop to $40,000 and I'm still no worried at all. You have to think long term in this market. It will come back stronger than before. Relax and enjoy the ride, everything will be fine as long as you have strong hands.

Re: Bitmain Attempts to Relieve Miner Selling Pressure
by
Alice1989
on 24/06/2021, 08:31:32 UTC
Chinese news media 8BTC has tweeted that Bitmain, a Chinese manufacturer of cryptocurrency mining equipment, has announced that it intends to reduce the selling pressure imposed by miners. Because they are selling second-hand mining equipment in the market.
According to Bloomberg, since April, the price of Bitmain miners in China has fallen by about 75%.

Bitmain to suspend sales of mining machines
8BTC has tweeted that the miner manufacturer intends to temporarily stop selling spot miners to reduce the selling pressure caused by the large number of second-hand mining machines entering the market.

Bitmain announces a full move from China
According to the Chinese news media tweet, Bitmain has announced that a complete change will take place outside China. However, this indicates that only some mid-level and senior staff are to be transferred from this country to another location.
Miners are leaving China and settling in Canada and Kazakhstan as Chinese authorities ban cryptocurrency miners and seek to reduce CO2 emissions by Chinese industries.
As CoinDesk reported, ASIC miner producer Canaan has set up an extraction farm in Kazakhstan. A country that offers cheap energy and recently has a friendly atmosphere with cryptocurrency miners.
Fortune magazine has referred to this country as a new cryptocurrency mining hub.

Re: Will governments ban Bitcoin like they did with Gold?
by

Government can't control people to invest in bitcoin but they can try to ban bitcoin in their country. Still, some people will find a way to be able to own a bitcoin even though bitcoin is banned in a certain country. In my country, the government didn't ban the bitcoin instead they made use of it to earn profit. There is even an app that let's people trade and hold bitcoins as long as they want

Unfortunately an uneducated video. Especially the Visa comment. Visa is not analogous to Bitcoin. Visa does not provide final settlement.
What do you mean by that? What do you call a final settlement exactly?

Isn't it odd they compared bitcoin taking as much electricity as the whole country of Argentina to mine it?
Under what time frame?
Why it would be odd while it's true?  Huh
The time frame is the same. In one second or in one year the Bitcoin network consume more electricity than Argentina.

Quote
Cambridge researchers say it consumes around 121.36 terawatt-hours (TWh) a year - and is unlikely to fall unless the value of the currency slumps.
[...]
The online tool has ranked Bitcoin’s electricity consumption above Argentina (121 TWh), the Netherlands (108.8 TWh) and the United Arab Emirates (113.20 TWh) - and it is gradually creeping up on Norway (122.20 TWh).

The energy it uses could power all kettles used in the UK for 27 years, it said.

The criticisms against bitcoin made by bloomberg since it has reached well past $60k per coin recently.
So you just knew the big news media outlets were going to put up their views on how is it possible for something they all dismissed as a just a fad several years ago when it rose then dumped in pretty short succession.
But this time it has held strong being very stable just above $57k in it's second huge bull run.

Bitcoin can't have DApps(at least in the main chain), because the main focus of Bitcoin is to have a secure and decentralized money/asset. That's pretty much all it does, but it does that really really well; as it should be.

Bitcoin isn't a threat but mining it using non-green energy contributes to the existing problem we call as global warming.

...if so will bitacoin and others be able to run forever or is this just an excuse to change the green field to red..
There are miners mixing the source of electricity for mining but it's still unclear how many percent is renewable and non-renewable. There is a Bitcoin Mining Council formed recently to address these issues so just wait for their report.

Green field to red? Are you talking about candles in trading?

I guess bitcoin will not be disturbed if the internet goes down. bitcoin will wait for its owner to return,
However, those who really need the internet, there are not only bitcoin, governments, banks, and so on, all work will stop if the internet dies, because now is the world of technology so everything uses the internet to make it easy

Re: Many great things are banned, censored or restricted in China. If China wants to
by

If China wants to crackdown Bitcoin mining activities, miners will go elsewhere. This is actually a good thing for cryptocurrencies, as it shouldn’t be under a decentralised, power-obsessed regime. China can play with its digital yuan.
China government to many things to protect their regime, not their people or the world, see FUD from China as simple as that, you will see your journey with Bitcoin and China FUD more easily.

If you look at lowest price of Bitcoin, on yearly basis, you will see Bitcoin is always moving up, almost all years (one year, 2015, has negative change compares to 2014). Stay positive as FUD will disappear after all.

Please notice the lowest price in 2020, we are many times higher than that min price, still in yearly uptrend.  Cheesy

Re: Why are we all waiting for a certain price to sell Bitcoin?
by
Alice1989
on 23/06/2021, 13:23:41 UTC
because if you buy without taking into account that decision I think you are very rash.
don't you buy Bitcoin to make a profit? then by calculating the purchase based on the percentage level, you have to wait for the right time.
Buying must have a calculation, selling is the same.
