stratum+tcp://p2pool.vtcpool.co.uk:9555

mined 1.5VTC and 2.5MON till now w 1.25MH/s

Same pool for me. I started 13 hours ago with 2Mh/s, and got about 3 VRT + 14 MON for now. And rejected shares are only 3.5%, which is a really good result!

I'm mining vert + mono from vtcpool, but for some reason I'm getting quite a lot (~10%) rejected shares;

[2014-05-03 08:33:22] Rejected 02402954 Diff 114/52 GPU 4 pool 0 (Invalid share)

Any idea whys' that?

Still nothing, even though I mined yesterday. And still that graph in the P2Pool shows no activity at all.

I have 2 * Asus R9 290, CGMiner 3.7.2, and commanline is:

del scrypt*.bin
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer.exe -o http://p2pool.org:9327 -u LaZRjy3NEps9mfY1WG3eriYgSQrqUNeBvK  -p Anything --scrypt -w 512 --failover-only --thread-concurrency 20480 --gpu-threads 1 -I 18

No config file.

But my Asus R9 290's have their own power connectors, 2 x 6pin PCIe connector per card. Shouldn't powered riser be useless in this case?

Yeah I read that the first time, The answer is still no.

If you do not have a power connector on the motherboard specifically for the pci-e slots you need to use powered risers, because the motherboard traces and the wire feeding them aren't thick/wide enough to carry the power for all of those cards

What is the brand/model of your motherboard?

My MB is AsRock Z87M Extreme4. But; why in the world would the R9 take any power thru the MB, if it has it's own dedicated power connectors going directly to the power supply??

Could anyone help with this; I just can't get Afterburner to see my 290 cards. Is there some trick that I should be aware of, if neither of R9's is connected to the monitor?

And I also noticed that while CGminer *seems* to do mining just fine, it won't show the temperature for the GPU's at all.

Thank you Colin Miner!

My account is actually listed on the Litecoin graphs page, but it is empty i.e. there isn't any lines or peaks on the it. What does this mean? Isn't few hours enough to get some results or what..?

Ok, it says that it is in './.litecoin'! For some reason Ubuntu's search did not find it at all...

Why it is not in the directory where I extracted the litecoin-qt, and where I started the client from? And how come it did not receive any litecoins, even though CGminer stated many accepted blocks during the few hours?? How long time it will take?

Just can't find it... Huh

Litecoin-qt that I launch is located on the directory 'Home\Downloads\litecoin-0.8.6.1-linux\bin\64', and only other file in that directory is 'litecoind'. And even search can't find the wallet from anywhere in the system, but litecoin-qt *seems* to work just fine anyway and there's a wallet address in it. Except that it won't show any coins...

Where is Litecoin wallet.dat in Linux??
by

I have downloaded Litecoin-QT, waited it to sync with the network, and tested some mining with CGminer & P2Pool. Even that I mined few hours with about 1400kh/s yesterday, I don't still see anything on my wallet. And, I also tried to search for for the wallet.dat- file from my Linux, but there isn't such file anywhere in the system.

I thought that this wallet.dat is generated automatically when client is started, but isn't it so?? What should I do to generate a wallet, and get my Litecoins from P2Pool to it? I have checked many times that the username (=wallet address) in the CGminer's configuration file is correct.

Ok, after AMD driver update, changing monitor to internal graphics card, and messing around with settings I was able to easily get over 800kh/s.

But, for some reason when I removed the monitor from the R9 and changed it to internal output in the motherboard, neither GPU Tweak nor MSI Afterburner detects any cards at all??? Why's this? I mean; CGminer sees cards just fine, but these tuning apps do not.

Spiffy_1; for me the best way for learning is by doing. Rather than reading 2 weeks for the manuals and try to understand in theory what is the correct setup, I'd like to play with the miner's setup for that 2 weeks period and learn bit by bit. It just works better for me.

Ok, with a slight decrease on GPU voltage and few settings tested, it seems to be stable with ~700kh/s. But, the problem is that mining seems to use all the power from the Windows, and even the cursor movement is quite jumpy. What settings should I try to get the mining going on the background, so that the PC can still used for other applications also?

Would it also be a good idea to use motherboard's internal graphich card for the monitor, instead of the R9?

Ok, thanks! I did not understand that those settings are so critical, I thought that they are just for fine tuning...

Anyway, with options following options I was getting something like 700kh/s per GPU:

  --scrypt -I 20 -g 1 -w 512 --thread-concurrency 24550 --gpu-powertune 20

But then in a minute or few, temperature of the GPU´s rise to somewhere near 95c, and then whole Windows crashed with a blue screen :-o

What would be maximum temperature for such Radeon cards??

I don't have any config file... These instructions that came with cgminer are so difficult to understand, that I just cant get that config file to work. I always just got errors with it, so I tried to start miner without a config file, just to get started...

Could someone give an example of a good config file?

Question about powered risers
by
AlliumPorrum
on 21/12/2013, 21:33:07 UTC
Everywhere it is said that you MUST have a powered risers if you are going to use more than 3 GPUs per mining rig. Now that I got my Asus R9 290's, I noticed that there is a separate PCIe power input in them.

So I'm just wondering; what exactly is the purpose for the powered riser, vs. one without a power? Are powered ones needed only with some older GPUS's without a dedicated power input? Do ALL R9 cards (270,280,290) a PCIe power input, so there wouldn't be a need for a powered version of the riser at all?
