I need a loan of a few bitcoins, to be paid back by next Friday. Send me a PM to get my address and to work out the details with me. I've had a few smooth transactions on the forums so far and I have a five star rating on bitcoinclassifieds.

Constitution > Federal > State > Local

That hierarchy only applies on issues expressly detailed in the Constitution. On most issues, the order should be Constitution > Local > State > Federal. Most people don't realize that this is what the founders intended.

I think you may be conflating what rights are allowed to be prohibited with what is allowed to be established. Anything is allowed to be established at the local level and up if the constitution doesn't forbid it, but if the constitution says you have free speech or freedom of/from religion, that trumps all laws restricting that freedom all the way to the local level. I.e. if the constitution says you can't have a christian government, not only does that mean you can't have a federal christian government, but that even local town governments can't be established by a church. I'm all for states having rights to decide how they operate, but not for states to make their own decisions to restrict rights otherwise protected by the country as a whole. USA went to war to finally settle that issue.

Whoa. The Constitution does not say you can't have a Christian government. It simply dictates the separation of church and state. This was not only to protect religious liberty; the main reason is because our founders had seen the corruption that the churches, especially the Catholic Church, had brought to Europe. Most of our politicians claim to be Christians, so in essence we do have a Christian government; just not a church government. I think that's an important distinction to make. However, there are town governments run by religious organizations: Omish settlements, Mormon towns in the midwest, and Native American reservations (a special case, but still relevant).

As for state's rights and the Civil War/ reconstruction: I think that the Civil War did more damage to America in the long term than most people believe. Lincoln, while an exemplary politician and a man of admirable character, unintentionally helped cause a distortion of how our federal government interacts with the states. In his days in Congress, Lincoln was a strong advocate for the 10th amendment, and had a very moderate stance on slavery; he opposed it, but thought that the best course of action would be to let the states get rid of it on their own, with limited federal involvement. These were tense times, however, and unfortunately Lincoln's only option in his presidency was to exert a lot of Federal power. Of course, he did this in order to preserve the Union, but it had the unintended consequence of increasing the federal government's power disproportionate to the states from what the Founders intended. We've seen increase in power occur with all of our national crises: the entitlement programs of the Great Depression, the hysteria created during the Cold War, and the Patriot Act (etc.) in the modern era. If we do not return the power to the states, America will suffer the fate of all past empires by restricting liberty and abusing power.

I may be wrong, but I thought I'd throw this out there. The general mood of this board is that we're in for a rise in price. I feel this way too, I think that the trend is up considering how much more exposure bitcoin is getting (look at the Bitcoin subreddit).

However, with the economy growing, I think that we'll only see less volatility. Remember, stabilization is our long-term goal. Sure, we'll always see price fluctuations, but I think we may be closer to stabilization than I previously thought. What are your thoughts on this? How close are we to being relatively stable?

Trading Bots

Maybe this is the wrong section, but I think you guys can help me here. I want to make a trading bot that will execute trades based on parameters I set according to technical indicators. Thing is, I have almost zero experience with coding. I don't just want to use someone else's code though, I want to build this from scratch, using custom and unique indicators. Is there any resource that I could use that would teach me how to go about creating and implementing this bot?

TL;DR Noob coder needs help building trading bot.

I've been running bitcoin smoothly for months, although now it seems that I can't connect to the bitcoin network and transactions that I've sent aren't going through. At the bottom of the client it says "0 active connections to the bitcoin network" although I do have an internet connection. Tried restarting the client, didn't work. So, what do I do?

US dollar is not going anywhere in our lifetimes. When crap hits the storm people rush to the dollar (bonds).

Silver is severely over priced right now. Fair value is probably 15 dollars when you consider how much it
costs for it to come out of the ground and be sold.

Bitcoin would double before silver. Easy choice.

Bonds are done.

Just because he has an opinion doesn't mean it is correct.

To be fair, that applies to all of us. We'll just have to see what happens.

As gold prices fall, silver will rise.

..first time ever I hear this hypothesis.
Most folks say that silver leads, gold follows. silver is more volatile with larger swings, but they shall both go the same direction.

However, historically, silver seems to be highly underrated, compared to gold.
However, bitcoin seems to be highly highly underrated compared to fiat ;-)

Ente

I think that right now, historical data doesn't count for much. People are beginning to completely distrust fiat altogether, so they're turning to metals. I think that gold has reached its peak (for now, until fiat collapses completely), and so people looking to retain their wealth are going to turn to silver.

You should make this a poll.

Also, yeah. Bitcoin for sure. As gold prices fall, silver will rise. But as the dollar (and the Euro, and any other fiat) falls, bitcoin will skyrocket.

So, this recent spike in the price of bitcoins was largely caused by one very large purchase. There was a slight rise in price after that, although that was likely due to people covering shorts and overreacting to the artificial spike. Right now, we're seeing very little market activity as people are likely sitting on their coins waiting for another spike.

At first glance I thought that we'd see another rise, less sharp than the first one, but still relatively steep. Looking at it again though, I think that this inflated price we have now is extremely artificial. One large purchase can't truly reflect the supply and demand. I think we'll see the price steadily fall from here, followed by a sharp downturn once people realize how oversold we are. In fact, I think we'll be testing a $4 floor again soon.

Thoughts?

I would've like to see more toot and less reveal, Bitcoin isn't Wheel of Fortune. Grin

I was just trying to make an easy guide for beginners who already know what Bitcoin is about, but might not know exactly how to use it.
