Re: How can I contribute more to Bitcoin ?

Yes thank you for this piece of advice, I already tried and I was a bit lost with those channel things and saw many people say they lost funds experimenting with it and I'm not experienced enough to play with this and the very small amount of BTC I have. Also I understand that if you don't have much, people won't use your "routes" and you will not make money out of it.

I think as said before your post, that promoting bitcoin and using it are the best things I can do now Smiley

there are many things that can be done,
firstly learn about bitcoin and especially learn about anything bitcoin related happening in your region.
(local services to promote/get involved in, local meet-ups/conventions, your local government representatives stance on crypto)

there are alot of people that like to do face to face exchanging in a safe space. and socially gather to talk about it (much as the anime people like to go to comic-con and cosplay conventions)
so learn about bitcoin and if there is not much events/stuff happening in your region, you could try to become the event organiser to start meet-ups in your area and if progressively more popular, you can upgrade from meeting up at a cafe with like minded people to start a formal meeting place and progress to a conference/convention space.

i have seen people try turning their local area into a tourist area centred around crypto, such as bars/cafe's that accept crypto as payment or even selling locally or online crypto themed novelty items
if you are business minded you can look into opportunities of starting crypto related businesses

also if you are into politics, you can keep an eye on any involvement of your local governors involvement of any bitcoin law/regulation and petition them if what they propose does not meet the bitcoin community standards

if you are more of a social influencer you could look into the real facts of bitcoin and discern the fact from fiction of the social media representations of crypto

spreading awareness. correcting myths, starting businesses all help to strengthen bitcoin in the real world

i understand you are not a dev, so peer review, scrutiny of the dev-politics of protocol changes are not your path. however awareness of protocol changes (which usually get translated by others from code jargon to 'normal speak') can help yourself and others to know if bitcoin is going in the right direction where you can also be involved in prompting the core devs to stick with bitcoins principles, rather than changing into a wallstreet puppet

..without knowing what skills/experience you do have in the real world of employment, its a little harder for us to guess the best path you can help support bitcoin, but i hope i added some ideas beyond the narrow 'just run a node' rhetoric

Thank you Franky1 that was inspiring indeed ! I live in a small town in France where crypto is not well received (for the moment) but I bet things are going to change fast, younger businessmen are open to it and start talking about it so hopefully I can play my part when there will be a need to implement paying solutions for exemple.

Spreading bitcoin with love Smiley

I like these answers and I think I'm doing that by trying to help people enter the community.

One of my friend is running a node and investing by DCA after he saw me do it, another is starting and has a cold wallet, another is also starting but uses Binance ( it takes time to explain cold custody )

Anyway, thanks to all of you for your kind words and ideas  Wink

(i laugh when someone asks how to support bitcoin and replies try to promote another network(facepalm))
running a lightning node is not about bitcoin. dont let people fool you. its a different network and a risky network, where many people lose their funds. (even lightning devs have lost their own funds using it, and they are suppose to be the experts)

also if you dont have much funds then when you lock up your value and then allow others to route through you, because your balance is low your route wont be a optimum roue for many users and you may end up spending more of your value to re-balance yourself after people use you as a route.
the small fee's do you get for offering your balance may not offer you profit compared to the cost to re-route your funds in another longer(expensive) path to rebalance your channel(s), or the cost to open and close the channel.. so do research and dont be lulled into some fake promotions where people pretend lightning is the better profitable network

the lightning network does not help contribute to bitcoin. it infact is the agenda of causing people to use bitcoin less because they are being forced away from using bitcoin and instead told to use the lightning network. so dont be fooled by all the shenanigans of the subnetwork support group trying to promote another network as "bitcoin"

Yes thank you for this piece of advice, I already tried and I was a bit lost with those channel things and saw many people say they lost funds experimenting with it and I'm not experienced enough to play with this and the very small amount of BTC I have. Thank you for those ideas, I will begin research for making a lightning node/electrum server (I remember searching for Lnnode 2 years ago but it was a little complicated for me and I didn't finish it)
It would be ideal if you try to find a specific purpose in everything, why you are doing it, not only because you want to make a contribution. Your contribution will be much more useful if you do something that will work even without your daily physical engagement.
Over time, different problems always appear, direct or indirect. It is a greater contribution to solve such things than. I would say that the number of nodes is not the weakest point of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

I totally agree with you. I was thinking to help small shops in my town to accept bitcoin and help them install a solution but I found that they were not interested sadly (I asked like 20 or 30 people in the center of my town but they took me for an alien or something ^^)
So yeah I know I want to do things with Bitcoin because I am hooked but I don't really know what to do. Running a node was easy and I love working with hardware so that was my first choice while thinking I was usefull for the network.

If you have any business you're running or managing, you can add Bitcoin as your second payment option. If you see someone that is interested in Bitcoin, you can also educate them more about the technology. Some person just know the word "Bitcoin" and nothing else.

I wish I could but I can only get paid in FIAT as I receive money from a large mainstream company.
I have received one payment in BTC so far from a friend because I painted his appartment Smiley

What are you doing yourself to help bitcoin grow ?
I’m not sure if you’ll like the idea, but here in the forum, one of the best ways to grow your Bitcoin is by lending to trusted users.

You might want to check out the Lending Board..

As far as I know, there’s only one major active lender here, so this could be a good opportunity for you. Although, it’s considered high risk since most loans are unsecured, but that lender has been doing it for a while, so it seems to be profitable I guess.

I'll check that thank you, I didn't even know it existed Smiley this forum is huge and I didn't check it all Smiley

Run a Lightning node and open a few channels and try to get people to route payments through you.

Run a Bisq client and open a few offers.

Operate a Nostr relay.

Start an Electrum public server.

Use your sats to donate to important projects that need funding.

The possibilities are endless.

Thank you for those ideas, I will begin research for making a lightning node/electrum server (I remember searching for Lnnode 2 years ago but it was a little complicated for me and I didn't finish it)

I'd like to know how I could contribute more ? (I don't have dev skills so no coding for me)

How about paying for goods or services you usually use with Bitcoin? VPN and email provider/account usually are easiest option to start, especially if you still use Google Mail and use internet without VPN or similar option.

I've done it a few times but I'm still stacking and I don't have a lot ^^

Hello everybody !

First I would like to thank everyone here on this forum. I always have found people helping and being respectful so that's great !

I've been interested in Bitcoin since 2019 and each year I learn new things and dig deeper in the rabbit hole.

I run a full node since 2 years 24h/24h
I run an avalon nano 3 miner since a few days for fun and you know... the very thin possibility to mine a bloc one day !

I'd like to know how I could contribute more ? (I don't have dev skills so no coding for me)

What are you doing yourself to help bitcoin grow ?

Thank you.

you clearly don't understand that these numbers are not even close to being possible nowadays.
and not in 10 years, not in 100 not in 1 million years. The earth will probably be destroyed sooner than 1 key is ever found by luck.

Never back away from a good investment because the price is high, the good thing with Bitcoin is that you can buy fractions.
What you need is a strategy, it can be DCA, it can be one shots, you will have to find what suits you depending on your means and what you want for the future.

Do you believe in it ? I do and I don't even look at the price anymore.

""So how do we add emotion?""

I know a woman who just started Bitcoin and I can tell you emotions is not what you want in crypto !
She went a little mad and had some kind of mental breakdown because she was only thinking about it and became desperate when the price was going done and pure FOMO when it was going up.
She still calls me whenever the price pumps or dumps and asks me what to do ?!

You need to be cold as F when playing with money.

Unfortunately, I missed the window to consolidate my small UTXOs while fees were low. Now they've skyrocketed again! Fingers crossed for another chance soon.

Today I saw fees were pretty low so I decided to consolidate all my UTXOs, then I talked about it to 2 friends who didn't even know this was a thing so here is a post about it Smiley
[Guide] Consolidate your small inputs.

Introduce that topic to your friends as it is helpful for your friends to understand about UTXO consolidation.

Quote
Are you actively involved in dollar-cost averaging (DCA) to build your Bitcoin holdings over time? If so, it's essential to understand the concept of consolidation and how it can benefit your overall Bitcoin strategy.
With DCA, you will have to define yourself that how much money you plan to invest with each DCA time. It will decide you can withdraw it immediately after buying or have to wait for some DCA rounds before can afford to pay withdrawal fee.

Some websites for DCA and withdrawal fee checking.
https://costavg.com/
https://withdrawalfees.com/coins/bitcoin

Ty for all these links, very handy !
