Re: CoinTerra announces <$3/GH January pricing and new product availability

Anyway I agree I think they're pretty good.  If I was in the market for a miner I'd go with them over HashFast. But the network is going to be pretty insane by January.

Curious... why would you go with them over hashfast?  Ubiquify seem to be pretty on the ball.  Hashfast will most likely be Hash-Deliver-Late, but I believe they will be delivering before Cointerra. HDL also has the MPP for the inevitability of anticipated difficulty growth and late delivery baked in.

Will you consider selling just ASIC boards instead of complete systems?

They better consider it... otherwise the MPP as described is pretty much useless.

I am thinking these are going to be a tough sell to small time miners.

There are going to be a small number of BabyJet owners who may want to increase their HF stake, though I think most folks are burned out now with the fast difficulty rise.  My guess is if KnC is late, some will jump on then... maybe even some KnC people will refund and switch.  If KnC does deliver, I think it is going to be a dry spell until the BabyJets start delivering.  KnC would have stock in hand for Nov. delivery with a proven product.

If the babyjets start delivering on time, some might pick the no mpp program but as zedicus said... the MPP is what sets HF apart.  Without the MPP, HF looks like any other asic vendor.

I am thinking the cardboard box it came shipped in with some zip ties to hold it in place.  Rumor is that the cards don't like to be too cool.

Price per board was hinted at anywhere from around 1000-2000$. So with 3 chips, you would need 3 boards.

So the chips are free... but the PCBs are 1000 to 2000 each?
Seems like there is quite a bit of profit being taken on the backs of the MPP.
Why so expensive? What are they made of ground up unicorn horns?

Looks like you europeans lucked out this time.

Metabank will most likely be shipping miners 10 to 20% below spec.

USA bitfury starter kits will be single board 25GH delivery.  Remains to be seen if they are 25GH or "25GH" Smiley

Entertainment value?  A lot of mine because we like it.
I have a few Asic Pre-orders outstanding, but I believe your assessment is currently correct.

If HF provides boards I can't see them saying "build it yourself".  Generally the more boards assembled the lower cost per unit so no single user could achieve the costs (and yes time is money) of HF doing a run of a couple thousand boards.  I would expect if the MPP is exercised most users would opt to pay the difference and receive completed boards over raw chips.

"Build it yourself" is exactly what they are saying with the MPP chips, but I know what you mean.

My guess is that HF MPP has a 90 day lockout period, probably put in place with the IceDrill guys, to make sure they are getting value.  If HF is able to produce reasonably priced boards in Feb. (90 days after Icedrill receives their chips), I think all their customers will be pretty happy.  I think everyone expects difficulty to skyrocket in the next 5 months so that MPP will be surely appreciated.

Yeah... the MPP is pretty awesome... but it is near useless if they don't provide "usable" hashpower for a nominal fee.

Raw chips without a PCB is pretty tough pill to swallow. And if they decide to charge 10BTC per populated PCB in March, there is nothing in their terms to stop that.  They promised that there would be an independent DIY community at the time, but no technical specifications of the chip has been released which would be a pre-requisite.

Hopefully there will be some clarity provided around this soon for customers (I am one btw)... not that is matters as they are sold out.  But yes... the MPP is the most attractive/innovative part of HF's offer.

Not to derail the "Avalon sucks... but maybe not as badly as everyone is saying" off topic...

but...

Has there been any info on what exactly is the free shipping?
Seemed like there were some open questions about:
1) Sign for delivery
2) Insurance
3) Tracking info

Maybe there was another that someone asked about international to canada or something.

Any word?

Just a heads up for those not tracking the other thread, all B3 refunds have been processed according to Yifu in this post:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=257748.msg3035431#msg3035431

so all the refunds went out, aside from 2 orders which bugged out for whatever reason, and is looking into it now, those are 6997 and 6817.

Thanks for the update Yifu.

If you had timely updates like this... there probably would have been less bitching/animosity... not a whole lot less... but definitely less.

Was there a post about how to add shipping?
When I ordered there was a free flat shipping, but now everyone is talking about expedited shipping.

How does one get in on that?
What is the "free flat" shipping going to go out as?
My store account just says... free flat shipping.

4 refunds - if you include Anenome5 who put in his refund request before the google form was available.

The txn ids of the refunds looks like they only did nine or so this round.

I am sure everyone has seen it already... but BigTimeCoin has received his 4/17 bulk chip purchase.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=282452.msg3021324#msg3021324

There was also a rumor that Zefir received 4 batches over the weekend.
http://www.coindesk.com/bitmine-to-drop-4phs-of-asic-power-onto-bitcoin-network-before-april/

Maybe like rip van winkle... Yifu has awoke from his slumber to see that world has changed (and maybe unlike Rip, Yify has started to do something about it).

I am not a native english speaker, so maybe I have some misunderstanding what does "August delivery" mean. Could you please describe why "August shipment maybe if everything goes well" is equal to the "August delivery" I purchased?

In the bitcoin world, your translation is pretty spot on!
Frankly delivering within a couple of days of the promised date is closer to 3 months early (compared to competitors -- AM doesn't count since their miners are for entertainment purposes only).

Has Dave confirmed that US August Starter kits will get 2 H boards shipped per order like the equivalent EU model to meet the minimum advertised spec?

And full kit orders get 2 kits then?

Unlikely... Full kits will most likely get an extra M and enough H-boards to meet the spec advertised --- 400 GH/s.  I think Dave and crew have found a use for the "partially functioning" boards -- to top up people hashrate to the posted level.

Re: knC legit?
by
AsicShill
on 27/08/2013, 14:17:17 UTC
Does anyone know if knc is legit? I am really interested in buying 1 of their miners, but I am not sure.

They have enough funding through pre-orders to deliver... but so does/did Avalon and BFL and they have both lost all credibility to deliver anything including accurate updates.  Right now people are guardedly optimistic about KnC and some are extremely vocally optimistic (bitcoinarama).

My advice would be to hold off on a KnC purchase until Nov. as they have announced that they will be lowering their pricing  ($7000 -> ~$5000?), and that point it will be clear if they have delivered or not.  It will probably be a mad scrum though when they announce the new pricing so if you want to jump in then, you will have to be quick.
