Re: When do you think Bitcoin will go back to $1,000? And some worries

I think we may see $1,000 bitcoins again in the second half of the year...but right now we are in a consolidation phase which usually happens after a big rally...I reckon bitcoins will be trading in a range between $400 and $800 for a few months...IMO

Re: Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?!
by

This always happens when the price is in a downtrend...The ones stuck in fiat who missed the rally from $100 are trying to get others to panic and sell so they can buy bitcoins for cheap...

Some of them are trolls and just want the attention...best to ignore them...

...read again... they are talking about BTC-E not Bitstamp in that forum

Oh, ok, sure insider trading then. Let us know how you get along with your lawsuit.

Lawsuit? ... No need - insider trading is handled by "Agencija za trg vrednostnih papirjev" which is the Slovenian version of the Securities Commission. All I'd need to do is write a letter to them with some publically available data showing them what happenned...I'm sure they'd be able to handle the rest themselves, computer logs are easy for them to get and analyse.

But I'm not going to do it, I didn't loose enough money this time to bother with this (although other people might).
And I'm sorry if I sounded abrupt/rude in my posts, I was just pissed off at them, not at you.

Looks like a newbie just spreading FUD.

I'm sorry to state this, but for example since I have registered, I've seen most of the brainless hysterical FUD-spreading from members with 100+ posts... People register and join sometimes, everyone has to start somewhere, that doesn't necessarily mean they're spreading FUD.

Check out the users post history all 6 posts are FUD.

I too am getting sick of all the FUD from newly registered posters. Theymos ought to put the newbie restrictions back in place. I don't understand why the restrictions were removed in the first place...

Re: mBTC - what the worst could happen..?!?!
by
Asteral

IMO, The worst that will happen will be that people will accidentally send 10 BTC when they meant to send 10 mBTC and lose money...This could end up creating bad press for Bitcoin if too many people make this mistake. To prevent this from happening, all the clients must agree to make mBTC the default denomination at the time of transition. Anyone sending in BTC should get a popup window warning that they are about to send in BTC. Likewise, all the major exchanges must agree to switch at the same time.

I think the best time to switch to mBTC would be when a bitcoin is worth $1,000. So 1 mBTC would equal about $1. This would attract many new businesses to accept mBTC since everyone is familiar with the dollars purchasing power.

Stagnation (price stability) is a good thing...We saw periods of stagnation in 2012, we'll see more this year.

Seems the majority was right.

Actually, at the time of this post only 28.5% voted that we would see $100 before August 1st, 2013...This is not a majority.

I went though the figures again and calculated that Bitcoins value actually dropped 93.75% from peak in 2011, if you don't include the gox hack...A repeat of that would mean a bottom of about $17. I cannot see this happening to be honest.

In the largest flash crash so far, in 2011, Bitcoin went from around $30 to around $3, losing 90% of its value.  Today, Bitcoin went from $265 to $105, losing 60% of its value.

I predict this trend to continue, and for Bitcoin value to continue to become more and more stable as time goes on, even as the price rises.

Easiest prediction evar.

Just because Bitcoin value dropped 90% from peak in 2011, doesn't mean it will repeat that in 2013...Bubbles always burst but the percentage drops from peak to bottom and timeframes are always different each time. Although I believe we will test $50-$60 again this year, I doubt we will see $30.

My 2 cents.

Re: September BTC BOOM!
by

There are several high quality exchanges coming online in the next month or so, including Coinsetter, TradeHill, & BTC Global. These will make a significant difference to the market.

Yes, Bitcoin needs more exchanges if we want to see higher prices. 4 big exchanges is not enough, we need 10.

Explain why we need more leading exchanges? Quantity over quality?  Roll Eyes

Stability... 10 big exchanges is better than 4 because customers funds will be more evenly distributed and diversified among the major exchanges. If one of the big exchanges goes down right now and loses customers funds, it would have a more severe impact than if it were only 1 of 10 big exchanges going down.

Re: Do you seriously believe that Cyprus was main cause of the bubble?
by
Asteral
on 20/07/2013, 23:32:35 UTC
The rally had already began two months before the Cyprus news hit the waves...Cyprus just happened to be in the news at the time Bitcoin was gaining media attention. No doubt Cyprus played a part in the bubble, but it was only one of many factors.

The main reason for the bubble, I believe, was simply herd instinct and a fear of missing out on something that could change their lives forever if they didn't buy immediately. Just like in the 2011 bubble, many bought simply because the longer they delay the less bitcoins they will be able to buy. Higher prices lead to others panic buying which leads to even higher prices etc. The amount of media attention also was a huge factor which fueled the bubble as new people outside of the community were brought into the market.

My 2 cents.

Yes...many interesting topics in this section die fast and get buried due to a hoard of pointless posts in other threads. It's a shame really.

I occasionally browse further than the first page or two in this section to see if I missed any interesting threads.

Re: just bought bitcoins on the market at 77.44 USD
by

Nobody knows what the price will do in the short to medium term...The market of Bitcoin is small and thus highly manipulative by a few large holders. My suggestion is not to try to trade with more than you can afford to lose. This takes the emotion out of trading which will help increase your chances of success in the market.

Re: Alt-Coins
by
Asteral

Bitcoins and Litecoins are the only coins in my good books

Agreed... however I have a feeling that another alt-coin will join Bitcoin and Litecoin sometime in late 2014/early 2015. Primecoin is a possibility or perhaps the next big alt-coin hasn't launched yet.

Remember Bitcoin was launched in 2009 and became popular in 2011, Litecoin was launched in 2011 and became popular in 2013, so I think 2013 is the year for the next big alt-coin to launch and become popular in 2015 (Perhaps late 2014).

The next big alt-coin however should bring something new to the table and not be just a Bitcoin/Litecoin clone.

It is also important that name of the next big alt-coin is short (2 syllables), universal and catchy. For this reason coins like Feathercoin (too long), Chinacoin (too political), Jupitercoin (too many syllables) won't become big. Primecoin is short, catchy and has a nice ring to it.

My 2 cents.

Re: How many bitcoins do you have?

Either you are all lying or something weird is going on here.

Why are 90% of the people on a bitcoin forum currently owners of "zero" bitcoins?

Because this is the newbie section of the forums! Most people here are new to bitcoins or haven't been involved in bitcoins for long. So don't expect many here to have amassed more than a small handful of bitcoins.

No, the time to buy was when the price dropped to $65.

Wait for another dip if you didn't buy then.

Though, I am confident in the long term we will hit new all time highs but not for another year or two...
