Any tendency to increase block time, for any reason, is probably a mistake. As coins get more popular, they will start making shorter and shorter block times to be more attractive as currencies. Longer block times are penny wise pound foolish in this case.

Regarding funding development, the ideal long term solution is a situation in which the bigger economic picture is such that devs work on projects they support, and others do other work on those projects they support, according to their area of expertise. Putting too much emphasis on funding development is asking for shitcoins. On the other hand though, the market is not there yet and it is still necessary to pay people to work on some coins.

Regarding decentralized exchanges, it is sort of like if you have NASA develop a moon lander but they cannot figure out how to package cereal for the astronauts to eat. Should it go in round boxes? Square boxes? Tupperware? Maybe a university is needed to study the issue.

A simple program that downloads blockchains and creates the ability for people to commit certain coins for a certain period of time to trade for a specific amount of another currency, if another party wants, is not complicated. My guess is that the focus is on bells and whistles, or making a profit, rather than functionality. Blaketrader did everything a decentralized exchange needs to do, except make a pretty website.

... It would be sustainable if coins for free hunters come from the game itself. ...

That is a brilliant idea. If one tenth or hundredth of the mining reward went to letting a brand new person play for free, and if there were a way to make sure no robots etc took those coins, it would be a massive draw.

Cryptopia still hasn't unfrozen the wallet deposits yet.
Artificial price spike since no one can add coin to the exchange. So the coins on there are "worth more".

Would be amazing is those prices stayed. I could put a down payment on a car Smiley

As soon as the wallet unlocks. Everyone will dump their coins on the price and tank the demand side. Any one not watching their buys will be left holding the bag as it falls. We only have 1.8 BTC in depth before it drops down to 140 satoshi.

A counter argument, to show that it is not a totally cornered market, and would be difficult to corner.

Wallets
471,664 hbn
397,564 hbn
383,744 hbn
150,000 hbn
147,750 hbn
108,455 hbn
100,000 hbn
100,000 hbn
97,276 hbn
89,562 hbn
83,894 hbn
78,619 hbn
74,052 hbn
72,621 hbn
70,948 hbn
68,287 hbn
68,123 hbn
60,380 hbn
56,788 hbn
50,000 hbn
48,309 hbn
47,400 hbn

+ 53 more wallets of at least 10,000 hbn

So if a person tries to take the pump too far they will have to buy a lot of expensive coins.

You are right though, any new person should never buy a coin while deposits are not enabled, because the price can be run up artificially.

It's well beyond discussion. Blocknet, the first decentralized exchange, is in testnet and expected to go live in a few weeks.

However, Blocknet DEX compatible coins will need to be BIP65.  I'm not sure if Slimcoin has BIP65 or what would be involved in upgrading Slimcoin to the standard.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but when this decentralized exchange thing is done a coin's website can link to what to enable people to buy?

A person goes to http://slimco.in/ or http://www.slimcoin.club/ or wherever and there is a page called "Buy Decentrally".

Where does that page lead?

Also, fwiw, my review of Nova exchange. Early on an exchange opened called Nova Exchange. There were obvious problems, they were clearly not suited as an exchange, then they announced they had been hacked and were shutting. Some time later this Nova exchange opened, not sure if the two are the same. At this Nova once I saw an impressive opportunity in one of the order books on a coin that is traded on one other exchange. Once I logged in, the order book changed. The appearance was that possibly they, or somebody, is trading based on who is logged in and what currencies they own. It may be inappropriate to make an accusation like that without proof, and I apologize for that, and it may have been a one off thing, just a coincidence, but I am cautious there. On the other hand, their interface is done extremely well. The amount of effort they put into fine tuning all aspects of the site itself is impressive. If I am mistaken about the first point then their excellent work on the interface by itself is enough to make them a better exchange.

Do the community members of Slim want to be included in Coinomi Wallet ? I think there is some fee to pay, so are you willing to pay. I will make some donation, so I would be in.

I'd donate to get added on Cryptopia. But first need to get a decent amount of Slim ) Sell side on Nova is poor.
Anybody interested in selling 200K for 1BTC?

1) The cost to get listed on Cryptopia now is very high, excessive.

2) The ease of getting on exchanges is increasing, and discussion of decentralized exchanges is increasing.

3) There is no exchange right now, to my knowledge, that has the reputation of listing only high quality coins. There are exchanges considered "high quality", but none that restricts itself to only the highest quality original idea coins.

4) Creating a basic exchange, along the lines of the old Blaketrader, is probably an easy feat for a number of people posting on this thread. Something more complicated, like a white label exchange or modifying peatio might also be doable, at a much lower cost than paying several bitcoin for a Cryptopia listing.

A suggestion is get the devs of a few high quality, original coins together, discuss creating an exchange that trades only solid coins, no premine, no ico, no ethereum etc. With several of these better coins combined into a cryptomafia the exchange they make could climb to the top very fast.

Coins I would include, maybe Gridcoin, Namecoin, Primecoin, Riecoin, Gapcoin, Soilcoin, Huntercoin, maybe the Blake coins just to have a few traditional coins that are better, ... Most of those I have some of, so grain of salt etc, some of them do not have devs at the moment, but imagine an exchange where every single coin was vetted for quality and originality by tested and proven nonbullshitters.

...

Once I'm back online and setup in my new place I will continue working...

Wait...are you a one man dev team? ...

There are two devs. Even if there were only one, one dev teams are common. You are comparing it to an ICO where everyone and their mother are advisors.

Still doesn't answer my question. The more I look at it the more it looks like a fad....
I've taken over from Tobler as the lead developer...  Tobler is ... still directly involved and has been working on the backend cryptotech.

...

It is a good point though. With more tech help more could be done. At this point anybody with a large pile of cash could walk in and hire 5 people to copy GEO and develop it further. You would be stuck playing catch up with only two devs. ICOs have a kind of sleazy history though. Maybe you could create a voluntary fork with an extra sum of coins to pay devs to help. If the work they do is good the coins they get will be worth something. Important though that the fork be approved by general consensus, voluntary and does not impact uninvolved people in any way. There should be complete continuity of old wallets through any fork if that path is taken.

Everything looks good but Cryptobloodbath has hammered all coins, including huc.

New website http://huntercoin.org/ is about ~30,000,000 times better than old website.

-

Here is an idea that has been raised in the past but never followed through on yet.

1) Snailbrain or Wiggi open a bounty specifically for this project, with a huc address that is public, anybody can donate or watch address.

2) Either one of huc devs or another person working for bounty open ad accounts e.g. with Google ads etc.

3) Place cheap per mil ads on various sites, e.g.
Earn Money With Altcoins
Huntercoin is a blockchain based currency.
You can make a small amount of money playing.

clickable address e.g. http://huntercoin.org/landingpage1.html

4) If the ad account is opened under a corporate name like "Huntercoin Promotion Account" and the metrics of the account are public, it will be possible for people to make suggestions regarding ads.

5) If you post a huc address to start this project I'll donate a small amount to start it. I can also give some advice privately regarding how to make the ads most effective.

6) Once the project is started, you can spend maybe 1/10th of the balance in the account on ads per week. So, for example, if there are 1,000 huc in that account you convert 100 to fiat and deposit it to the Google ad account to run ads until exhausted. The next week likewise 90 huc, or whatever.

7) Care has to be taken to monitor various test landing pages to see which is most effective i.e., which gets the most follow through interest after the initial click. Also very important is that the cost to play for people landing on the ad is zero. Somebody should be able to see the ad, click on it, download the client and play, and be able to make something without having spent any money.

Ideas pop up in threads and often are not developed, who knows if anybody will follow through on this idea, but I will try to donate at least a 1,000 huc, probably a little more, if a public person like one of the devs or somebody they trust starts a project wallet for that.
