I've Enermax TwisterStorm on L3+ and Enermax D.F. Storm of a D3 both with firmware mode (lowest setting) - works like a dream with a noise level around 55-60dB!

Hi,

My issue, does anyone have any ideas to fix it. Thanks a bunch guys.

Re: Antminer S7 Sound Insulation Box
by

I recently got an s7 antminer but I haven't been able to run it full speed due to how loud the fans are. So this got me thinking, could I build a box that channels out the heat and reduces the noise enough to run at full power?

Here is the general idea i have:
-A wooden/plastic/*some material* box. It will be large enough to hold the s7 with some airflow room.
-On the inside of the box, I will have some foam acoustic panels.
-Yes i know what your thinking. "Wont the foam cause the heat to be even worse?" well that's where my next ideas come in.
-Some duct venting inside of that box to bring the hot air directly from the output of the s7 fan to the outside of the box.
-This duct can then lead to outside to dispose of the hot air.
-Some more duct that will allow the s7 to draw cool air from outside of the box.
-All of the above ducting will have bends and be sound insulated to allow airflow and still minimize noise.
-There will be additional fans on opposite sides of the box. One for intake and one for output. These will help to cool the inside of the box for heat that escapes the two main fans.
-Just like with the main s7 fans, these additional ones will have ducting and sound insulation to minimize the noise.
-All the intakes and outputs of the fans can be grouped together accordingly so it can have one large intake and one large output.

Does anyone here have experience with something similar to what I am thinking? Any advice you care to share. Potential problems. Any input can be helpful and would be greatly appreciated.

Get two Twister Storm instead... already running @ 3.3 T/hs easy will much lower Ultra Kaze (Push / Pull)!

thought so thanks and it has 2 fans atm and the sound is insanely loud...

They can be very loud especially with the stock fan Sad.

I had a single G839 Noctua NF-F12 Industrial PPC 3000RPM PWM 120mm high performance fan on some S5s I was running a while back and they were pretty effective at cooling and were much quieter than the stock fan Smiley.

Try the Enermax Twister Storm @ 3500 RPM / 154 CFM / 11 mm-H2O works like a charm on my S5s even with a substantial overclocking - will try soon on my S7 Wink

SilverStone FHP141-VF on S5

I've just tried the brand new SilverStone as a more powerful replacement for my (already) powerful Twister Storm from Enermax. The fan install went well, albeit a bit tight on the frame as a 140mm - for information it's a snug 4-pin PWM. Then sometime after the boot sequence, I'm going the dreaded bip and the RPM drop as well as hashing. I can't understand as the new fan being more powerful by a good +20 CFM with superior static pressure. I'm not planning to use them on S5 but on my forthcoming S7 and I'm concern that it will not work properly on the new unit.

Hi Guys

Based in the UK and have a few S7 miners, one fan is starting to make a noise so i had a quick look on Ebay for one and was SHOCKED to see only US stockists at a stupid price !!!!!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-Antminer-S4-120mm-Fan-4500rpm-20in-cables-4pins-connector-/231569988051?hash=item35eaa599d3:g:xysAAOSwpdpVXtT5

Is there a cheaper option ?

Anyone advise ??

Thanks

I'm looking forward to try the new SliverStone > FHP141-VF

Can i use the delta fan tfc1212de 3.9A on antminer S5 or the 3.9Amper its so much for S5 controller?
How else controlling this fan for only 3.000-4.000rpm and not full load at 5.500rpm?
Thank you!

I'm successfully using a Twister Storm (push) and a Slip Stream (pull) - keeping my S5s around 60 degrees with a frequency of 375 @ 1.2 Th/s.
Noise to a bare minimum @ around 40dBA, it is like having the sound of a powerful PC or some hard working laptop!

Re: How loud are SP20s supposed to be?

I started mine up today and it was like you had turned on a vacuum cleaner- heck, even my vacuum cleaner is quieter. I had to put it in the basement and powerline it in the end, but are these units supposed to be so loud? I had a hard time even being in the same room as the miner. At first I thought it was my PSU making the sound but I noticed a few seconds after I plugged in the power to the PSU the noise would take over, and air was running through the miner.

It's really not an issue for me as I can plop it in the garage or basement and it'll get much much more quiet, but it's just a tad bit annoying.

Upgrade the fan with a Twister Storm -> http://www.enermax.co.uk/fans/twisterstorm/
It will need an external power supply, but, your SP20E will sound no more than an average tower and will still hash @ 1.4Th/s!

Re: Help with Antminer S7 sound

So i recently acquired an antminer s7 with bitmain's apw3-12-1600-b2 psu and immediately realised that it was loud. a bit too loud for my liking and i wanted to, somehow reduce the noise level, to make it bearable for me and the people around me.

I could possibly purchase 2 fans that'll have similar rpm, airflow, etc. I'm looking at the noctua nf-f12 pwm industrialppc-3000 as a candidate. another way is to build a noise-reducing cabinet (much like the one constructed by the one showcased in Fitzy's post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1194785.msg13157846#msg13157846)

I'm no expert in the bitcoin mining community so help would be appreciated, thanks!

They are currently three contenders for high CFM / Static Pressure with acceptable noise level (around 40 dBA):
http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/fans/ultra-kaze-120.html @ 133 CFM
http://www.enermax.co.uk/fans/twisterstorm/ @ 154 CFM
http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=711&area=en @ 173 CFM
The Noctua are just about 100 CFM and are not really powerful enough. I'll put the Grand Flex in the same category!
I'm running successfully overclocked S5 and slightly underclock SP20E with Twister Storm...

Re: Antminer S9 - Actual CFM at full fan RPM
by
Azad19
on 07/02/2017, 10:22:27 UTC
The 6000 RPM delta fan and the Ultra Sleek Vortex 14 are in totally different classes, it won't work.  Delta is doing 210+ CFM at max speed, the vortex only 98CFM.  There is almost nothing comparable to Delta fans on these things.

There's a fan called the Scythe Ultra Kaze that runs at 3000 RPM, pushes a ton of air and is slightly quieter, but it only works if u have the non-autotune S9 and can downclock the frequency a bit.

If I may, the Ultra Kaze is good - but - Enermax Twister Storm is better @ 3500 RPM for +150 CFM / +11 Static Pressure. It's working great on my Spondoolies SP20E. I've also, in order, a possible new king of the road (non delta / low noise), the Silverstone FHP141-VF @ 2000 RPM for +170 CFM. It's a 140mm mounting as a 120mm, one catch - the Static Pressure seems to be around 4...

Has anyone ever tried to use another fans to reduce the noise? I thinking about use some Prolimatech Ultra Sleek Vortex 140mm, I know that its 166 m³/h instead of the 188 m³/h from the default ones, but I'm talking about 18 dBa at full speed!

Some alternatives, they're all (relatively) quiet and they're all rated @ +130 CFM... works great on S5 and Spondoolies Smiley
