Re: SECOND GPU ONWARDS NOT WORKING - UVD NOT RESPONDING!?
by

Update

I am really bugged by this rig. I found out that the problem is not exactly plugging the second gpu onwards, it is actually with 7 of 8 gpus that came with the rig. I plugged other two gpus that I had and they worked fine along the only gpu of the 8 that worked.

What is bugging me is that when I got the rig, there were only one gpu plugged directly on the mobo and there were other 7 gpus plugged in risers. And these 7 gpus are the ones that are not working.

I'm still trying to understand what is happening, trying different arrangements. But I'm guessing there is a good chance that I'll return the rig to my friend...

Not all boards have all those options.

If you try putting gpu1, 2 or 3 in place of gpu 0. Does only the gpu 0 still mine?

I would test each gpu as gpu0 make sure they all work.

Then lets talk about how they are connected?

Risers I assume?

You can also test each riser with the gpu0 and good gpu.

Let me know...if the gpus work its just a matter of figuring out why it doesnt see the others.

Oh and make sure not to connect a gpu/riser from 2 different psu.  I see you have 2.  So all connection of power to motherboard are off psu 1....and gpu also connected to psu 1 will need its riser powered by psu1.  gpus on risers are ok to power off psu2...but be sure the riser gets its power from psu2 also.  Assume a y-cable to sync the psus to start together.

On my tests, the gpu0 were always the same. But the gpu 1 and gpu 2 I tried different gpus, always with the same result.

About risers... gpu0 is directly on mobo. Gpu 1 onward with risers. I tried to use new risers with the same result.

About power supply... This rig have two psu (750w), but first there is only one plugged on the mobo with total of 3 gpus. So... no mixing psu cables.

What I haven't tried yet is to change the gpu0. I'll try that and come back to report.

Make sure you have these set on the bios Smiley

set VTd INTEL VIRTUALIZATION to DISABLE.
set ONBOARD AUDIO/SOUND (AZALIA) to DISABLE.
    set IEEE1394 to DISABLE.
    set PCI-E SUBSYSTEM/LANES to x8/x4/x4
set ONBOARD GRAPHICS to DISABLE.  (optional depending on OS you running)
    set PCI-E GENERATION to GEN2.
set CPU FREQUENCY SCALING to DISABLE.
set CPU PERFORMANCE MODE to ENABLE.
    set FAST BOOT to DISABLE.
    set CSM to ENABLE.

Tried almost everything you said. Couldn't find the IEEE1394 option, also couldn't find the 8x/4x option for the lanes and CPU frequency scaling. The rest is like you sugested.

SECOND GPU ONWARDS NOT WORKING - UVD NOT RESPONDING!?
by
BPina
on 26/01/2021, 22:10:47 UTC
I just got a used rig from my friend that has been offline for 2/3 years (he said it worked pretty fine back then). It consists of:

- 8x RX580 8gb PowerColor
- Asus Prime Z270-AR
- Intel Pentium® G4400@3.30Ghz
- 4gb of ram (2133mhz)
- 2x Corsair CX750m power supply
- Sandisk 16gb flash drive
- Hive OS (latest version)

When I run only one gpu, HiveOS starts fine. When I plug the second GPU onward, I start to get the error "UVD not responding, trying to restart the VCPU" as can be seen on the image (https://imgur.com/a/JTGAqMw).

I tried to change the PCI-e Auto, Gen1 and Gen2 (only didn't try Gen3). Also tried to edit /etc/default/grub to change the line to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=“radeon.modeset=nomodeset” (also tried radeon.modeset=0 and just "nomodeset").

Not sure if there is another config that can be made to solve this.

Any clued to help!? Ty a lot!

I tried to put a spare battery on with no luck. But after posting this I've seen that not only the configs are not saved but the date/hour are also reset. So... maybe the spare battery is also dead. Ordered a new pack of batteries and it should arrive today. I'll try them and come back here to report.

BIOS is not saving configs!?

I just got a used rig from my friend that has been offline for 2/3 years (he said it worked pretty fine back then). It consists of:

- 8x RX580 8gb PowerColor
- Asus Prime Z270-AR
- Intel Pentium(R) G4400@3.30Ghz
- 4gb of ram (2133mhz)
- 2x Corsair CX750m power supply

CONFIGS:

- Plugged only one GPU directly on a pcie 4x (so I can eliminate riser problems)
- Display connected to the GPU, not to the mobo (mobo have only video out for hdmi, my display is DVI)
- No HD, SSD, M.2. or pendrive plugged in for purposes of this test (saving BIOS configs between boots)

Now comes the strange part... The machine turns on, I can get into the BIOS and change everything. When I save, the machine reboots. Sometimes the configs are there, sometimes they are not. Even when they are, if I turn off the machine and turn it on again, the configs I made are all reset. Also, sometimes it gets to the black "American Megatrends" screen giving me a message "Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting. After setting up Intel(R) Optane Memory or the RAID configuration was built, SATA Mode selection must be changed to RAID to avoid unknown issues. Press F1 to Run SETUP"

So I am not being able to config the rig properly, therefore I am not being able to plug all gpu.

Things I've already tried:

1) Tried to update the BIOS. Downloaded the latest from asus website, put on a pendrive and got it to update. This have not worked, configs still reset when I turn off the computer.
2) Tried to put a new battery on the motherboard. This also didn't work.
3) Tried to put the only plugged gpu into another 4x pcie (3 in total on this mobo). Still not saving BIOS configs.
4) Tried to plug the power cord on another outlet (hey, I'm getting desperate here...). Still the same.

ANY clues? ANY tests you would suggest? Please, need some help... =(

TY!!

Asrock H110 BTC PRO - White pci slots not working?
by
BPina
on 08/01/2021, 00:44:08 UTC
My rig was off for a couple of years. Managing finally to have some place to put it, I turned it on today. I managed to get my 11 gpus working (8 RX580 + 3 1070), but one gpu got hot and the HiveOS rebooted. And then the problems started.

When the OS booted, only 5 gpus were being recognized. I tried it all, even updated the BIOS to 1.60, but in the end, just the black slots are working. I always had the 1x risers taped so they don't short when they touch eachother, so the problem is not that.

On the new bios, all the white slots appear red and the other appear green.

Any clue on what may be happening?

TY a lot.

Does simpleminer support miners with both AMD and Nvidia cards yet? I wasted $20 on this a long time ago and it was nothing but headaches.

Same here, man... same here... Having support of both amd and nvidia on the same rig would be most welcome.

What I have to say about version 13.4...

1) I'm mining on Nanopool since early feb, and I've never seen the average line so close to reported hashrate line as I'm seeing now.
2) Since version 11, I've started to get many invalid shares I wasn't getting before. Since 11.4, I haven't gotten any invalid/rejected share.
3) About increase on hashing... I was getting 341.9/342.2mh/s on 11.2. I am getting now a stable 342.8mh/s.

Great job!!

Just to be clear... Does this stale shares problem occur only on 11.3? Or also on 11.2?

HELP NEEDED - Problems setting up hybrid (amd+nvidia) rig on HiveOS
by
BPina
on 26/02/2018, 16:17:55 UTC
I'm trying to move out from Windows to HiveOS. My first try was very harsh. Here is why, and also need some help.

1) JUST A SUGGESTION HERE: I started yesterday at 9pm and ended up on 2am without being able to get to a good OC config without the rig crashing. That haven't happened to me much on Windows, not even close to how much happened yesterday, as I used HWInfo to monitor for memory errors. I know that building something like this on this OS is difficult, but it is a must. If HiveOS had this, there would be no other linux distibution to even think about.

2) HELP NEEDED HERE: Now, something VERY weird... When the rig crashes, it reboots. Ok. But when this happens, the system boots without recognizing the USB stick. I have to wait a few seconds and reboot again. Anyone seen anything like this? I'm using Asrock H110 BTC PRO+ mb.

3) HELP NEEDED HERE: I have a hybrid rig (8amd+3nvidia) (https://imgur.com/a/e3Jvx), and I'm kinda confused on how to set up OC for individual cards. On AMD OC, do I pretend there is no nvidia and set up 8 values, same on NVIDIA OC, setting up 3 values? Maybe this is the cause that the rig is crashing so much... Maybe I don't know the correct positions to apply oc to these cards...!?

Still on topic 3, in this image (https://imgur.com/a/bHNAN), am i applying 2050 to position 4 on the left (GFORCE GTX 1070) or to position 5 (Radeon RX 580)?

Thanks a lot.

It's kinda hard to get the API-What sheet updated. It doesn't stay couple seconds without many #ERROR cells (WTM JSON problems, i guess). =/

It is my understanding that WhatToMine API is not as robust as an Exchange.  They also want to avoid others to capitalize on the work they did.  I try to limit my Altcoin to the one that are worth looking after.

How many altcoin do you monitor right now?

I'd like to have a comprehensive sheet with most possibilities. So I've created there 60 lines(altcoins) to monitor. Isn't there any other place we could get info besides WTM?

Re: Which coin to dual mine with eth
by

What do you guys suggest now?

I was ETH + SIA then the ASIC bomb hit, I'm ETH and DECRED now but that's pretty poor.

Maybe LBRY?
Don't expect mad extra profit from dual mining. Do expect more heat from extra power consumption.

It's still doable but I really don't see a point in it - there are coins that give you more profit and take less power than dual mining.

"there are coins that give you more profit and take less power than dual mining".. likee.....?

Is there a way to monitor memory errors from each GPU, like it's possible to do on OverdriveNTool on Windows!? That'd be a hell out of a feature. I'm a new miner and my rig is very stable due to that error monitoring on each gpu memory.
