Security hygiene: Do you observe the phone/PC hygiene?
by
BTCOIN_COMADO
on 08/09/2025, 20:42:29 UTC
A lot of us already know that one of the biggest attack surfaces in crypto isn’t just smart contract exploits or shady tokens, it’s our own devices. Many of us browse Discord, check emails, click links, experiment with downloads and manage wallets all on the same phone or PC. That’s convenient, but it also means one successful malware infection could compromise everything.

Some people go the extra mile with:

Dedicated clean devices (used only for wallets and sensitive transactions)

Hardware wallets for cold storage

Virtual machines or separate OS profiles to keep daily browsing away from crypto assets

Others prefer the convenience of using just one device, backed by good practices like strong passwords, 2FA, and antivirus.

If I may ask, what’s your approach? Do you separate devices for crypto security, or do you handle everything on a single machine/phone and trust your habits?
Well you already know my own approach. Grin

What if a major CBDC launches successfully? A boost or death blow for crypto?
by

Central banks around the world are testing digital currencies (CBDCs), and some are closer than ever to a full rollout. On paper, CBDCs promise speed, lower costs, and government-backed trust.  Cool

But the big question is: how would this affect crypto?

Could CBDCs actually drive adoption by making people more comfortable with digital money in general?

Or would they crowd out decentralised alternatives by offering blockchain-flavoured fiat that feels safer for the average person?

There is also the surveillance angle with CBDCs, which we all know every transaction could be tracked with that. Would that push more people towards crypto for privacy, or scare them off entirely?

Come to think of it: If the EU, US, or China launches a CBDC at scale, does it boost crypto adoption or spell trouble for decentralisation?  Huh

I am just being curious, so over to you OGs. Thanks for your inputs in advance.

Re: This is why decentralization is remains the best option

Anytime they mentioned decentralized, some people don't understand what it's about until experience is done on one person. Couple of days ago, there was this token called World liberty financial price token(WLFI), it's a token backed by Trump family and it looks like some big players had a good buy before it went live on exchanges.

Yesterday, Justin Sun cried on one of his tweet about how his token were frozen by the team worth $500m, it has been an alleged that he is known for price manipulation and dumping coins. I don't know if this has ever happen in the history of tokens sales that were unlocked only to be locked, there wasn't any form of agreements, this are unlock tokens.

This is an example to people that invest in anything, too centralized cost a lot and this is just one of the problems of centralization.

Token were frozen? It should not be a surprised because it is no longer a news that centralisation automatically makes crypto become just like ordinary bank money.
With their single point of control method for instance in centralised exchanges, custodial wallets, or even CBDCs, one entity has the power to freeze, reverse, or block transactions just like regular banks can. We all know this undermines the idea of censorship resistance.

How about the custodial risk where holding assets on centralised platforms means you don’t truly own them? “Not your keys, not your coins” which is a total joke! The custodian controls withdrawals, access, and security and that's no different from a bank holding your deposits.

I will continue sounding it in the ears of those who care to remind them that many centralised services enforce Know-Your-Customer checks, transaction monitoring, and reporting to regulators. That mirrors traditional finance where every transaction can be tracked, taxed, or restricted.

I could go on and on because the disadvantages are too much for a seemingly innovative initiative and therefore is likely to prove to be disaster soon!
Enough said.

Re: Worst mistake you did with Bitcoin?

Not buying some the first time I became aware of it in the $10s. It seemed too hard to purchase back then...it would have been worth the effort.

In 2015 I shamelessly turned down an opportunity to buy around BTC5 at a very cheap price. This happened as I had my doubts about it's future exploits and I had lost a huge sum to trending ponzi schemes making the waves at that time. When I realised I should have invested in it the price became outrageous. Since then I always do my due diligence and ensure not to pass another opportunity to grow.

It's 2025, and the crypto market is reaching unprecedented heights. Bitcoin is approaching $200,000, Ethereum is targeting nearly $6,000, and institutional players like BlackRock are solidifying their positions. Yet, the real momentum lies beyond these flagship assets; in the altcoin market.

Overview of the Crypto Market's Growth Potential
While Bitcoin and Ethereum maintain their dominance as market leaders, altcoins are becoming the center of innovation. There’s no doubt that 2025 is shaping up to be a transformative period for the altcoin ecosystem.

Altcoins are capitalizing on evolving trends and creating lucrative opportunities for savvy investors. Even meme coins, which were once viewed as novelty assets, are demonstrating serious value and profitability.

The hunt for the "best altcoins to invest in 2025" is intensifying. You should consider investing in altcoins if you're looking for diversification, higher yields, or exposure to cutting-edge blockchain applications.

Why Altcoins Could Outperform Bitcoin and Ethereum
In 2025, the spotlight is shifting from Bitcoin and Ethereum to altcoins due to their explosive potential. The buzz around “high-growth cryptocurrencies 2025” is centered on these innovative disruptors.

Why are altcoins capturing investor interest? Here’s why:
Innovation: Altcoins are pushing the boundaries of blockchain technology, from layer-2 scaling solutions to groundbreaking multichain projects.

Diversity: The altcoin market is brimming with options. Some tokens specialize in DeFi, others dominate the GameFi space, and a few have transformed memes into profit-generating assets.

High ROI Potential: While Bitcoin offers stability and steady growth, many altcoins hold the promise of exponential returns of 10x, 50x, or even 100x gains.

Presale Opportunities: The “altcoin presale opportunities 2025” trend is gaining momentum, as early investors position themselves to capitalize on tokens before they hit the mainstream.

Hoge Finance is a deflationary meme coin that rewards holders while burning tokens with each transaction, making it an interesting project for those looking for long-term growth.

Why it’s genius: Its deflationary model means that over time, scarcity could lead to higher value, all while having fun with the meme.

Hoge combines financial rewards with meme culture, allowing holders to watch their stash grow while enjoying the hype.

The Pitbull community and charitable angle make it a great choice for those who want to see their investments grow while contributing to social good.

Benefits of Investing in Altcoins with Utility
Not all altcoins are created equal. While some are pure hype machines, others—like those mentioned above—have real-world applications. Here’s why that matters:

Long-Term Viability: Coins with utility are less likely to crash when meme hype fades.
Attract Bigger Investors: Institutional investors look for functionality, not just vibes.
Market Diversification: Adding utility-focused altcoins to your portfolio spreads risk.
How to Get Started with Meme Coins in 2025
New to the meme coin game? Here’s a quick guide to jump in without getting rugged:

Do Your Research: Look for altcoins with solid roadmaps and active communities.
Start Small: Meme coins can be volatile, so it's best to invest cautiously.
Use Reliable Wallets: Check out wallets like Trust Wallet or MetaMask for secure storage.
Stay Active: Join Telegram or Discord groups to stay updated on the latest moves.
Final Thoughts
The crypto market in 2025 is shaping up to be a playground for altcoins, and meme coins with utility are leading the charge.

Just remember: While the potential gains are exciting, the meme coin space is still high-risk. Invest wisely, stay informed, and don’t forget to have fun.

Which meme coin are you most hyped about?

More on https://hodlfm.com/top/top-altcoins-2025/

In all you listed here I see Hoge as a fascinating experiment, a meme coin with meme mechanics and ambitious, community-led features. But tread cautiously as the hype is real, performance has been uneven, and long-term value depends on execution and genuine adoption.

Take note that despite its deflationary mechanics, success depends on sustained demand as scarcity alone can’t save a project if interest wanes. Historical performance according to research has dropped by 67% over the year and it therefore points to volatility and risk .

In addition, some utility elements such as space stunts, NFTs, games, etc feel more like a hype than usable products so far.

While we are being optimistic it also vital to stand in-between the fence.

Re: Discord scam on the rise

https://cointelegraph.com/news/discord-scams-crypto-nft-theft-social-engineering

Hide your crypto: Infamous ‘try my game’ Discord scam on the rise
An X user known as Princess Hypio said they lost $170,000 in crypto and NFTs to a scammer who infiltrated a Discord server and pretended to have mutual friends.

Brief History of Scams:

"NFT artist Princess Hypio lost $170,000 in crypto and NFTs after a scammer convinced her to download a game on Steam.

The game itself was safe, but an infected server allowed hackers to gain full access to the device and wallets.

How it works:
▪️The hacker infiltrates the Discord community, observes and “gains trust”.
▪️Finds out who has crypto or NFTs.
▪️Offers to play and sends a link with malware.
▪️Result – the hacker gains access to wallets, personal data and assets."
Crypto Headlines AI(C)

That’s a painful reminder of how social engineering plus technical exploits can wipe out years of work in seconds and I am not surprised about that. Beyond the initial scam, I think what makes it even riskier is that many people use the same device for everything. Discord, browsing random sites, testing downloads, checking emails, managing wallets, etc.

The more diverse your online activity on one device, the higher the exposure. Malicious links, infected ad campaigns, or compromised plug-ins don’t need much to slip through and gain persistence. Once the endpoint is compromised, your wallets, logins, and even recovery phrases are all at risk.

I always advice people to separate environments although sometimes I also carelessly use the same device.

One “clean” device (or at least a separate profile) strictly for wallets and sensitive transactions.

Another device for general browsing, downloads, Discord chats, and experiments.

That way, even if your casual-use device is breached, the attacker won’t automatically have a complete access to your assets.

Re: Are meme coins still worth holding in 2025?
by
BTCOIN_COMADO
on 02/09/2025, 23:17:58 UTC
Hello everyone,

I'm still new to crypto and Bitcointalk, but I’ve been observing how meme coins like Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and others have evolved over time. With many new altcoins launching every day, I’m wondering — are meme coins still worth holding in 2025, or is their hype finally fading?

Some people say they’re just jokes, others believe they now have real communities and value. What do you think?

Would love to hear from both OG holders and new traders.

Thanks in advance!

Although having little experience in crypto, I think meme coins have grown past being just “jokes.” They’ve shown that strong communities can create real value, even without a solid use case at the start — Dogecoin and Shiba Inu are good examples.

That said, not every new meme coin will last. Many are purely hype-driven, and once the excitement fades, liquidity tends to vanish quickly. In 2025, it feels less about the “meme” label itself and more about which projects can keep engagement high, build ecosystems, and stay relevant over time.

So, I’d say meme coins can still be worth holding but mainly the ones backed by strong communities and consistent activity. The rest seem better suited for short-term trades.

Pi Network: Future Giant or Overblown Hype?
by
BTCOIN_COMADO
on 02/09/2025, 23:03:43 UTC
Hello Bitcointalkers,

New to the platform and as a beginner in crypto I have been wondering over the past few weeks whether or not Pi will become a very valuable and reliable crypto currency or the other way round.

Pi appears overhyped at the moment in my opinion based on research. Its value today is more about hope and community size than real-world application.

It appears to me that many crypto enthusiasts are into it but if one wants to be involved, it makes sense only as a speculative bet, not as a guaranteed path to riches.

I will appreciate the inputs of both the OG holders and the new traders on the platform.

Thank you.
