Hey All

I've been obsessing a lot about Bitcoin lately and I thought I'd do something productive and speed up adoption by spreading the good word. I developed a couple page informational flyer with some of the basic things that new Bitcoiners ask about and need to know. I thought maybe I could get some peer review on my information before I go down to the financial district in San Francisco and start handing it out. Also if anybody wants to tweak the final paragraph and go pass this out as well I'm totally good with that. Would be really cool too if someone with graphic design skills could help make the flyer more appealing. I'm not educating people on technical details or all the current forking drama, it will be obvious soon enough which chain is really Bitcoin. I'm just trying to peak people's interest and inspire them to go do their own research. Anyway, here is what I wrote.

What Is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is an open source digital currency. The code with which the software is run can be read and audited by anyone technically capable of understanding it. The software builds incentive structures so that those who provide cryptographic proof of security for the network, and thus the integrity of the monetary system, are rewarded with transaction fees and the issuance of new monetary units, bitcoins. It is fully peer to peer, no one has authority over anyone else and there is no single point of failure.

Why Do I Care?
Bitcoin is better money. There will only ever exist 21 million of them, they are scarce. You can send a few dollars worth of bitcoin or a few billion dollars worth of bitcoin for less than a dollar anywhere in the world anytime of day and the transaction is 100% settled and irreversible in about an hour. No one can freeze your wallet or seize your money without your secret key. Bitcoin is divisible, you can divide a bitcoin into 100 million pieces, you do not have to buy an entire bitcoin, you may convert any amount of funds. Bitcoin does not require personal information. You can open a wallet, receive bitcoin and send bitcoin without so much as a user name, there is no risk of identity theft. Break your phone, lose your phone? Restore your bitcoin to another device with nothing more than your 12 or 24 word pass phrase, a secret that only you have access to.

Yeah But Its Volatile And They're Really Expensive
Bitcoin started 8 years ago as an anonymous whitepaper on the internet and has since grown into an 80 billion dollar economy comprised of millions of actors, the rate of speed at which this technology is progressing is astonishing, stability will come as the technology matures. In time much of the world's wealth will come to be expressed through bitcoin and other similar technologies. When 21 million bitcoin need to account for all the goods and services of a thriving world economy the price of a single bitcoin will need to be far greater than it is today. This may be several decades of adoption and development from happening but much like the internet the technology will come and the impact will be great. These are still the early days, you have not missed the boat, bitcoin has a long future ahead of it and you have the chance to be an early adopter of a technology that will reshape how society is governed.

Freedom is Dangerous And Requires Responsibility
That money you have in the bank is not yours it is the bank's, they let you play with it when things are going smoothly. When things are not going smoothly it is their money and the bank is closed until a decision about what to do can be reached and then maybe you can play with some of it again but maybe not all of it.
If you wish to avoid such situations and own your own money, you must take the full responsibility of keeping it safe from thieves and loss. You need to be the one to make sure the website you're sending your money to is legit. You need to keep your backup key safe and secure. And you need to be the one to educate yourself about the technology and how it works. Bitcoin is an evolution in self governance it requires individual responsibility.

How Do I Get Them?
You can connect your online bank account to an exchange like Coinbase, Gemini, or Kraken. You can buy them anonymously for cash in your area by trading with individuals directly on LocalBitcoins.com. You can find Bitcoin ATMs located all over the world. You can earn them by charging for your goods and services in a decentralized online marketplace like Open Bazaar.  You could put your computer to work and help provide the computational effort that secures the network in a process called mining.

Don't Drug Dealers and Terrorists Use It?
Criminals are often early adopters of new technologies, but where would we be today if we ignored the potential benefits to the rest of us simply because of a few bad actors. Bitcoin and other crypto technology stand to bring about a wave of financial inclusion which will leap frog billions of the world's poor into a modern financial ecosystem with access to a global supply of capital. Bitcoin will bring billions out of abject poverty, it should not be shunned.

Where Can I Learn More?
Search the internet. Check out Bitcointalk.org. Go to YouTube and search for Andreas Antonopolous or the World Crypto Network. Buy a book. Read the crypto news at Cointelegraph or The Merkle. Watch a Bitcoin documentary. Download and explore a Bitcoin wallet on your phone. Ask someone else if they know anything about Bitcoin. Learn as much as you can about this technology, don't underestimate the impact this will have on your future.

Thank you
Pass this paper around, if you like it and you want to send me a tip, I'd appreciate it, Check out my website at CharlesLaKamp.com for more info about me or my Bitcoin address. You can also email me at CharlesLakamp@gmail.com and ask a question or arrange for tutoring/consulting. Thanks again.
-Charlie

If you want to support my campaign, by distributing this info or by sending me funds, for which I have created a specific wallet, and which I promise will only be used for Bitcoin evangelism, I would greatly appreciate it. And if you just want to help me fix some grammatical errors or correct how I represented what Bitcoin is, I'm good with that too. I believe I can convert at least 1000 new people to Bitcoin and I would like the community's support. I will keep this thread updated with my progress and if any funds are raised  I will look for community input on how funds should be spent. Lets spread the word and change the world. Thank you.

Wow. Can't believe this ICO is finally gonna happen. I've only been waiting 8 months lol

Yes, it been long I've been waiting for the ICO launch, It will be interesting the way the auction thing will go, but some people are of the opinion is going to lead to overvaluation of the platform.

what do you mean with overvaluation about this ?

He means that if the funds are raised to quick and the rate paid per token is sufficiently high the project's market cap will be substantially overvalued and likely crash when the token hits the exchanges.

Very interesting project, I would like to hear more about the plot and plans for transmedia immersion prior to the crowdsale.

That's all coming in the white paper Smiley

So...how long until this white paper comes out? Project sounds interesting and I don't like waiting.

Do you seriously think that Matchpool has a chance against Tinder?

I would rather use matchpool than tinder

Tinder is total garbage, nothing but horny teenage boys and catfish.

Anybody know when we will be able to put ICN purchased through an exchange (ie Kraken) onto the ICONOMI website so we can receive dividends?  I hesitate to put ICN in an ether wallet because I'm a straight up noob that can't overcome the gerth issues in downloading the ethereum blockchain.

I feel an investment in ICN, ICNX, and Blockchain Capital will allow an investor to ride the crypto-wave to success...does anybody feel Iconomi and Blockchain Capital overlap too much to invest or do ICN holders see value in Blockchain Capital?

You don't have to download the ethereum blockchain, store your ICN at myetherwallet and your dividends will be sent there. There's no rush though dividends aren't coming out any time soon.

My take is that with ICN, you have to report dividends to the government and pay taxes on them. But with ICNX, you do not have to pay taxes on them until you sell them.

Good joke man for me. Where those ICNs are rigged to one person Smiley ? Or where on ETH network any token have owner ?
As you see is IMPOSSIBLE to tax you directly. In EU that works that way you have to sell crypto to fiat make bank transfer and then you report income and pay tax. ICN like ICNX are same in matter of taxation till you sell your dividend for ETH for fiat USD/Euro you have earned 0.
Unrealized profit is not real profit in crypto until you will find fiat buyer you can not say you earned anything.
ICNX and ICN are same in taxation - in my country gains come when you capitalize in fiat profit not by just keeping it.

In stock market people are avoiding keeping cash on account at end of fiscal year they buy stock report 0 income then they sell next day to keep fiat in broker account until you move money in fiat out of stock market you have 0 to pay. This is good tactic in tax dodging.
Besides of that in EU there are countries where you have 0% capital gains Tongue like Estonia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_gains_tax

But every country is different while your ICN on your ETH wallet are not bound to anyone - but I don't stop you for paying if you really want.

Taxes on your ICN??? STFU lol.

Taxes are an immoral form of slavery in which people are forced to work so that the automobile industry can have its infrastructure subsidized, so that other people's children can learn about white privilege white guilt and prepare themselves for guvmint funded degrees in things like gender studies, so farmers can receive subsidies to make sure unhealthy junk food is cheap and competitively priced, so that soldiers can receive pay for guarding opium fields in Afghanistan, etc etc.

Not paying your taxes is a noble and just form of civil disobedience against an immoral and tyrannical system of wage slavery and capital miss allocation.

I am going to continually buy bitcoin. 1200 is still cheaper than what bitcoin will cost in a year. If the ETF does get rejected bitcoin will probably experience a small correction, not as big as people might think, and then quickly resume its bull run and a month or two from now it will set new all time highs. If the ETF passes watch out the All Time Highs will just come sooner. Personally I think the ETF will pass, its just a gut feeling, but we have a new administration one that's supposed to be more bitcoin friendly and the ETF has been jerked around for so many years now that no one expects anything, I think its going to happen and I placed my bets accordingly.

UBI is a horrible idea, it just amounts to regular devaluations and redistribution. There's a reason UBI can't be paid with anything scarce or of real value, it doesn't work. UBI is a total scam based on the idea that we can create money from nothing and then spread the money around until we're all the wealthier. Whether you do it with dollars or cryptocurrency its just devaluation and redistribution, it doesn't work and neither do Keynesian economics.
